Stunning Trainer, amazing colour!

Being a trainer wearer, fan and adidas collector for many years. As I've reached middle age its no surprise that comfort is now key. So my go-to shoe of choice and comfort over the past couple of years has become the iconic NB Classic 574, which not only offers comfort in heaps, but still looks amazing with a pair of jeans or fatigues. So If I'm going to be on my feet for any length of time these are by far the comfiest trainers I own, hence why I have 5 pairs of them in different colours now.

My main reason for me leaving this review was purely for the colour. Being a trainer nerd, luckily for me I knew what colour these trainers were meant to be. That said I still ordered them with caution as the picture on the website was very different. When they arrived I was pleased to see they were exactly as I'd hoped and were the luscious rich deep burgundy colour as shown on my photo. I understand how these things are photographed and sometimes the bleached out images can put people off, so I hope this helps.

I'm a size UK 10.5 so I usually get a UK 11 for comfort. I bought these in a UK 11 and they were too SMALL, so I sent them back and ordered a UK 11.5 - which are too BIG. So I've had to go through the same king routine again with the Post Office which I'm getting king tired of. Think I'll go in to an actual SHOP next time, pay a bit more, be served with a smile, be satisfied with what I've bought and walk out a happy man. Instead of all this king about.

First impression was great, good looking, fit nice, comfortable. Wore them for just over a month and left one started to develop a wearing mark on the inside just under the stitches, which i found out this morning, opened up leaving a 10mm whole. Not impressed.. this brand is supposed to endure wear and tear for long periods but these really let me down. I am considering they might not be a genuine product at this point.

I bought these as i had a similar pair previous and they came up at a good price, the colour looked fantastic, especially with jeans and they were comfortable, they did feel a bit snug around the toe mine being a size 11, my other pair are a 11.5 so maybe thats my size in New Balance..
Anyway i wore them to a football match, and out on a few walks and then noticed the back sole had started to peel away at the heel, this got worse on the next walk so i have had to return them to amazon and have a refund as they no longer have the size or price..

So, definitely slightly wider than most training shoes these days, that’s why I went for the NB’s, but NOT massively wider.
They definitely are on the small side, I normally take a UK9 but decided to go for 9.5 & they only just fit!,
They look great & seem well constructed, but only time will tell. I won’t be doing any sports in them, just generally getting about, dog walks etc. If they last longer than my previous stupidly expensive Sketchers I’ll be happy 😊. Delivery took longer than we expect these days, I initially went for the free option but was given an end of month delivery date, so updated to premium, still took over 2 weeks! Also used pay money interest free option..,

Great looking trainers for such a low price. First pair of New Balance I have owned and they are super comfortable. Feels like I am wearing slippers they are that soft.

As a lot of other reviewers have mentioned I strongly advise going up at least half a size. I am normally a small size ten with room to spare in all other makes of trainers / shoes. Got these in a 10.5 and they fit perfectly in terms of length and width with minimal room to spare so a 10 would have definitely been too small. If the normal size you wear is already snug then I would suggest going up a full size.

Sizes confusing

These trainers are very nice, but I could never figure out the sizes so after ordering 2 pairs I gave up and decided to go into a shop to try them on instead. I usually wear an 8, but read reviews saying they ran small so ordered a 8.5, but it was really small (felt like a 7) so I ordered a 9.5 which was huge. I later went to a shop to try a 9, but it felt big so I gave up and got a different brand. I have had NB 500 before, and an 8 was perfect.

A treat for sore feet

I have suffered from plantar fasciitis for a few years now, so I decided to try these trainers having read that New Balance is a brand that gets particular recommendations from podiatrists. I can safely say that I have not been disappointed: I have noticed a definite improvement in the four months since I bought them.

Some reviewers have reported finding these trainers somewhat on the small side. For my own part, I have found them to be just about right in the long run. I have found over the years that when I buy trainers in the correct size, they always feel pretty tight at first, but then once I've worn them in for a couple of weeks or so, they end up feeling much more comfortable. On the other hand, if I go up a size for something that feels right initially, they end up feeling too big. So generally, the sizing was more or less in line with what I expect of trainers in general. Having said that, it does seem a little bit idiosyncratic in this case. My trainers were labelled as UK size 8/EU size 42 but US size 8½; normally UK size 8/EU size 42 is the equivalent of US size 9, so your mileage may vary.

All in all, I was more than satisfied. I ended up buying three pairs in different colours.

NB trainers getting smaller?

I've had a few pairs of fashion 574s & running 860s, which I've gotten on well with. I've always sized up to a UK6/eur39 in 574s, & they've fit well if a little loose on the heel. These ones were tight on first wear, & I thought they'll stretch my others must've been like this & I've forgotten. Nope. They remain*snug* after a fair few miles, & I'd suggest the toe box has got shallower too.
I've recently bought new 860s direct from NB & they are similarly snug & shallow.
