How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

LONDON NINJA.
4.0 out of 5 starsone of the better Vietnam War movies
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 October 2017
One of the better Vietnam war movies... It tells
the story of the assault on Hill 937 at the A Shau
Valley in 1969.

It starts with the arrival of a bunch of FNGs, that
is F***ing New Guys, who are green to Nam... The
jargon is about right, and it does show some of the
darker side of the war, like the brothels and friendly
fire. The battle scene are quite good, but we hardly
see the POV of the NVA or VC, they seem to be an
invisible enemy. Maybe that was the point, but there
were two sides to this battle...

Overall, still a good film.

2.0 out of 5 starsPoor attempt at depicting the Vietnam War
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 May 2019
If you’ve watched Platoon, We Were Soldiers Once and to some degree, Full Metal Jacket and Heaven and Earth, Hamburger Hill pales in comparison and ends up being trite and cliched with lame acting.

Cortney Vance’s acting is absolutely awful and each time he’s on screen the movie dies just that little bit more.

The film is based around real life events but with such poor dialogue and acting, it falls wide of the mark in depicting the bravery of the soldiers who were there and the true horrors of war.

This movie should be remade with a bigger budget, better actors and a better script.

I had to switch this film off after 10 minutes the noise of bombs going off, gunfire and general mayhem meant that you could not hear anything that the actors were saying to each other. I have rather gone off watching films about Vietnam after this and sitting through the redux version of Apocalypse Now.

Not much of a story here, but if you ever wanted a film that fully demonstrated the grim, unrelenting, utterly terrifying misery of modern warfare, then this is it. I struggled to make out what was being said a lot of the time. I don't know if that's the fault of the actors, the DVD or my ageing ears, but it was pretty hard work.

Based on a controversial real event, American soldiers take a well defended hill in Vietnam and suffer high casualties.

There's nothing really wrong with the film, it's just not an especially interesting example of its genre.

One of the only independent Vietnam war movies, attempting to showcase the day-to-day lives of infantrymen in the 101st Airborne Division, their interactions with the Vietnamese they encounter, racial tensions within the US military during the sixties, and finally, the brutal attempt to take Hill 937, the aftermath of which caused what could be considered a turning point in American public opinion about military involvement in Vietnam.

Very realistic, and obviously violent scenes but not gratuitous at all. All were entirely in context. Two scenes I found harrowing, specifically, when so many were shot by "friendly fire" & in the final push for the summit of the hill. Brave men indeed who shamed many protestors at the time back in the States, showing a courage beyond any call of duty. Thank you to such men and those who have followed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the rental. Huge respect for those who fought to win, “Hamburger Hill!”

A film worth watching as a tribute to the young men who did fight for Hamburger Hill during the Vietnam War, true guts and determination under Overwhelming odds. Sadly the gill passed back and forth during further campaigns.

Classic, sickening too, what with all the renewed publicity of WW1/2 We have at the moment, i don't think it will be too long before this war/conflict is brought to our attention once again? Many people think this was just a war with America and Vietnam, but a lot of French also lost their lives, it still amazes me that even from the days of the Somme that the top brass can still send their troops into the butchers shop and still have good quality steak on their plates while the troops are rationed on a life expectancy????
Bloody Good film!
