Not like they used to be

I have worn Asics for at least 15 years. it was time for a new pair. The same GT 2000 model I purchased was a size 8 which I ordered in the latest model the GT 2000 9. Since that time they added more padding which for me has made the shoe smaller. Another thing that changed was with their one-piece mesh upper fabric that felt better over the top of the foot, BUT I did not feel it was reinforced enough in key areas like the older models to drive toe-offs. I could see how a toenail with wear could tear through the top. I read other reviews that stated as such and had to return them. I also tried a larger size and it was too big and instead tried a wider width instead that did work out better. In the end I did not feel it was a worthy investment even at a lower price. Asics needs another revamp to correct the upper toe area for sure. I ended up buying the Gel Kayano 27 instead.

Fits differently than prior models

These might work well for some, but for me the footbed was too "shallow" - unlike the GT-2000 model I've been using recently (I am not sure but think I might have a version 6 or 7), my heel kept slipping out, which was not the case at all with earlier GT-2000 model. I really wanted an all-black running shoe, so I returned them and got an Asics Jolt 2 instead in all-black, which doesn't have this problem and fits fine.

A bit tight with insert.

They fit but they feel stiff underneath and tight on the sides. 9.5 wide. Ball of foot area seems particularly narrow. Loosened laces but still tight. Have plantar fasciitis. Insert Doesn’t feel super supportive in arch but it does in toes. When I remove the insert and put in my custom orthotics they fit pretty perfectly.

New balance 9.5 x-wide foam fresh might work better for me. They are not tight at all and almost cushion enough without orthotics.

I was attracted to these because they came in a set and they were on sale. Plus in the description it has a larger charging surface. Unfortunately there's been many times that we have put our Pixel 6 to charge overnight and it shows solid green and it barely charges or we can't find the sweet spot and it's blinking at us. So yes they do what they're supposed to do but just be aware of the finickiness of the pads.

Hole in toe box

I always buy this shoe but I have to put a patch in the toe box as soon as I buy them. Every Asic’s GT-2000 shoe I’ve bought gets a hole by the big toe. Otherwise, it’s a good shoe for the price. The patch helps but I shouldn’t have to do it. I upgraded to the gel nimbus a month ago and no hole yet.

Too narrow

I’ve used this brand in the past, but I must’ve chosen a different ride style because these shoes were way too arrow and were fairly painful to wear. I thought I could keep them around for days when I’m doing something grubby, just to have a pair of shoes that I wouldn’t mind getting dirty, but they’re so wrong for my foot that I will just donate them to someone who has a much narrower foot than me.

I give them a 5 for comfort and support. I walk 3 miles a day and they give me the arch support that I need. One negative - they gave me two different lengths of shoelaces. Quality control could use some improvement.

Update: After 9 months, I'm changing my review to 3 stars. My big toes came through the mesh on both shoes (and no, my toenails are not long). From now on I will not buy full mesh uppers. At over $100, I expected better quality.

I have to tell you I’m disappointed to say the least. I have owned these shoes since March but didn’t start wearing them until April (it’s now July) for work. I work in a busy medical practice and already the toes are beginning to rip. The arch supports in them are also lacking so you’ll have to buy your own. I’ve always loved ASICS and been a huge fan. Looks like I’ll be switching they just don’t hold up. Best of luck… hope this helps.

Toe Box Very Narrow

I have a narrow foot (AA) and narrow heel (AA also). I was recommended this style shoe by my foot doctor. When I tried on the shoes, I found the toe tip/toe box too flat and narrow for my feet. I need a more rounded, raised toe as I have fractured both of my big toes in the past. I found the toes of these shoes pushing down and rubbing against my big toes. On the positive side, I loved the color and found the rest of the shoe comfortable.
