4.0 out of 5 starsEffective against metatarsal pain
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 August 2019
I have been walking around the house in bare feet because shuffling in slippers (as you inevitably do) has been aggravating my arthritic knee. Unfortunately, this has brought on pain in the 2nd metatarsal-phalangeal joint (base of my 2nd toe). I researched this and found it's the classic location for metatarsalgia. Among other things, arch supports are supposed to help and I have some shoes with these which definitely reduce the discomfort - but what to wear at home and how could I treat the problem. I hoped that exercise might help, then I remembered that I used to wear the classic wooden Scholl sandals around the house when I was much younger so I looked to see what is available online. These seemed to be a good option because, for one thing, they are not a very expensive option, if it turns out they don't help. I received them by same-day delivery, just because it was available free. 12 hours later I can confirm that they certainly help with the ball of the foot pain. This is not apparent if I walk around the house in the sandals but returns if I walk bare-footed. The slippers are rather noisy on hard floors but walking in them has not affected my knee, so far. In fact, I'm quite pleased with them. The only downside is the massaging sole - all the little bumps do start getting uncomfortable if I stand or walk for any length of time. I'm guessing my soles need to harden up in new places to cope and luckily I don't have to walk very far for any length of time. It remains to be seen if the exercise component of the design has any long-term effect on my foot pain, but at least I have relief for now. They look fairly nice as well, but I suspect will get grubby quickly.
