5.0 out of 5 starsThe best 'budget' Android tablet
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 September 2020
Not the cheapest tablet but Samsung clearly know what they're doing. Great build quality, feels great in the hand. Really thin and light with small bezels around the bright responsive display. Looks more expensive than it is. Quad speakers produce a surprisingly loud rich sound for such a small flat device. Minimal pre-installed bloatware (just a few simple, useful Samsung apps), the Snapdragon processor and Android 10 make it quick and solid at multi-tasking (YouTube, Netflix, email, Lightroom, Word etc.), at least on day one of installing and testing dozens of apps! The lack of S pen support isn't ideal but it's almost half the price of Samsung's flagship S line tablets. Unlike the 2019 model (the A6 10.1") it has a proximity sensor(!) so it's compatible with automatic sleep/wake cases too 🙂. So far, no complaints - photos to follow. Overall, highly recommended!!

1.0 out of 5 starsDeliberately crippled. Storage not expandable.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 November 2020
The option to move apps to SD card has been removed. It is advertised as being expandable by adding an SD card, but this is useless. The internal storage will fill up with apps very quickly - 10GB is taken up by the operating system to start with. You will have constant headaches with lack of storage and need to mess around deleting apps in order to install new ones or update. Very disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent tablet

This tablet is the business, it's sleak it's slender and runs like a dream , I would recommend this tablet for every tablet feature as well as kindle and music, it's 10.5 screen is perfect and battery life very good, I've owned this tablet a week and already I know I got something special , don't bother paying 500 or 600 pounds on a tablet, this one is fine even though it doesn't facilitate the s pen. Stick a 128gb sd card into it and the 32gb storage doesnt seem so bad, great tablet , Need a tablet? Consider this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Obvious software problem.

Ok I've had this tablet for 3 days now, and this is the second time I've had to do a full factory reset, this involves putting all my passwords in again its getting a little bit annoying, reason for the reset is the tablet will not let you open it up it won't accept the 4 digit code keeps saying its wrong when its not , and no face recognition, so the only way to start the tablet is a full factory reset. I do like the tablet and would love to keep it,but if the problem persists iam afraid its going to go back. I see other people who have purchased the same tablet are having the same issue with it,samsung website is full of people asking how to unlock there tablet. Update on this issue 19/2/21 ,it would appear that the issue was not the tablet, it was one of the apps that I tried to transfer from my phone, after downloading only the apps I use the most the problem has not happened again, so careful what you download.

After having no further issues in two months I can now give the tablet 5 stars, well worth the money 😀

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast and responsive

I bought this to replace my ailing Nexus 7 Mk.2 - I wanted the 10 inch screen because these days there is less real estate surrounding the screen making the 10 inch screen a much neater package to carry around. With its octacore processor everything is very responsive and the battery seems to give quite a good life - I tend to read 3 times a day and stream a film in the evening and I charge it once or twice a week.

Overall, very pleased with it and would recommend it. My photo shows it in its case - I've done a separate review with more pictures recommending that particular case (Zototop case) available on Amazon.

2.0 out of 5 stars Cannot adpot SD card as internal storage - on-board storage will fill very quickly
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 March 2021

* * * UPDATE 14 April 2022 * * *

Rating increased to 2 stars following firmware updates, which mean it is now possible to move apps to the SD Card. Still not possible to adopt SD card as internal storage, so pressure on on-board storage is reduced but not really relieved. Even having moved all apps which allow it to SD card, internal storage still 83% used, and updates require moving the relevant app again.

* * * ORIGINAL REVIEW 13 March 2021 * * *

Well done, Samsung - your dishonesty has cost you a long-standing customer.

Whilst this tablet has an SD card slot, it is not possible to use an SD card as 'internal' storage or move any apps to it (including the cache for apps). Given that the operating system takes up about a third of the onboard storage, it will not take very long before the internal memory is all used up. It begs the question whether even the 64 GB version would be adequate.

So any SD card you insert into this device can only be used as space for stand-alone documents, media, etc, representing a small portion of the total space required.

This is a real shame, as otherwise it is a very nice tablet.

4.0 out of 5 stars Competent mid-ranger

Initial impressions, since only had a few days, but seems good. The first thing that strikes, especially if being used to a slightly smaller-screened model, is how heavy it is. The blurb above boasts its lightness but it really isn't. On the other hand, it seems reassuringly solid and well made, with nice materials as one expects from Samsung. Would be quite tiring to use hand-held for any length of time, better rested on a knee or in a desktop keyboard case. Battery came 50% charged, so topped that up before doing anything else. Initial set-up smooth but quite time-consuming compared with other tablets and phones, especially if adding extra users. Google Play got stuck updating unknown apps at one point, but a restart seemed to fix that and it's been fine since I think. Unusually for a tablet it has an ambient light sensor, but it seems very aggressive so we've turned that off and gone for manual control. The screen itself is of fair quality, and has slightly (needlessly trendily) rounded corners, but struggles a little with viewing angles in portrait mode, such that the top of the display can appear slightly darker unless perpendicularly face on. The only other thing to note really at this point is that 32GB storage might sound a lot (heck, one of my Android smartphones only had 4GB!) but with 10GB reserved for system (seems excessive) and a few (but thankfully only a few) bits of bloatware, it will fill up quite quickly if you're a bit fast and loose with apps and media, and don't make good use of a microSD card for media storage where allowed. Do note however that this tablet does not appear to support apps being transferred to SD, nor the newer "adoptable" storage that combines internal and SD into one logical volume.

1.0 out of 5 stars FALSE ADVERTISING - Lack of storage cripples this tablet
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 April 2021
Colour Name: GreyStyle Name: WiFiVerified Purchase
Despite advertising support for Micro-SD cards, Samsung have deliberately removed the ability to move or install apps on a SD card, meaning that the supplied 32GB of internal storage fills up with no way to manage this.

Bought this as a Christmas present for my wife, once she installed BBC, All 4, NetFlix and watched a few shows, the tablet was 100% full and reporting storage warnings. We bought a 256GB SD card to add more storage, and then found Samsung have crippled the Tab A7.

There's now no way to use this tablet for streaming content, it's full, and has no way to expand the capacity. AVOID.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very good buy

I have to regularly fill out forms for my voluntary job on Office software. It was so fiddly doing it on my phone so I bought this. Android with Office Windows already downloaded. It seemed an extravagance just to make form filling easier, but I knew I would be able to use it for lots of other things. I read books on it, newspapers, and watch TV and YouTube. Zoom calls are now much more fun too, than when I took them on my phone. So much more comfortable than watching *anything* on my phone tbh. I'm sure there is more I can do on it but I haven't had the time to explore yet. For a relatively cheap tablet, this is excellent value for money.
