How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsBanned by pious puritan prudes

Lovely charming chamber piece denied cinema release by the court of metoo public opinion.
There is nothing in this film worth banning. It has been censored from the general public completely in USA so I had to buy this dvd from UK.
I detest monstrosities such as Weinstein etc but to witch-hunt every individual and tar them with the same brush is the road to destruction.

Self-help junkie
1.0 out of 5 starsDull, trivial, pointless
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 July 2020
Woody Allen has been churning these kind of pictures out for years: some are better than others - many are enjoyable. But not this one. I found both the main actors irritating - self-centred, middle-class ninnies on a trip to New York and who, through a series of unbelievable coincidences find their destinies. The dialogue felt forced; there was no tension; none of the characters were likeable. I almost didn't make it to the end (fell asleep first time round and had to go back into it to finish) and quite frankly, I wouldn't have missed anything if I hadn't.

1.0 out of 5 stars A very Woody Allen film

If you like Woody Allen you may enjoy this film, unfortunately I was conscious of his whiney voice in my ear through most of the 'I'm so clever' dialog. I found it quite puerile and dull, and felt embarrassed for Timothée Chalamet who is an amazingly talented young actor. I'm not surprised he donated his salary to charity. Who would want to be associated with such drival.

1.0 out of 5 stars Oh Woody! What happened...

As a Woody Allen fan since the Eighties it's difficult to accept this but 'A Rainy Day in New York' is an unbelievably flimsy film. A real shame that it will forever be associated with the brouhaha which prevented it from getting a conventional theatrical release, as that only serves to overlook the fact that someone saw fit to present this to the viewing public. I'm not sure what's worse: that Allen followed the process of making this and at no point saw fit to abandon the project or that it was completed and it saw the light of day at all. Rarely have I seen a more utterly pointless film. The kindest thing I can say about it is it's mercifully short.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dull and misogynistic

Possibly the most uninteresting film I have seen in a long time; and by the third UK lockdown, that is something. It's riddled with stereotypes (of class, the old boys network, and on women who can't seem to be portrayed as both attractive and intelligent), and actors who perpetuate misogynistic language used in every-day discourse. The various predatory men who appear throughout the film and sexualise the young, naive, and at one point very drunk, journalist is hugely problematic, and something you would imagine to have been produced before the #MeToo movement. An uncomfortable and unamusing watch. Why was this film made, and how were the likes of Chalamet, Law, and Fanning happy to play these roles?

1.0 out of 5 stars Inside Woody Allen’s head

Every actor in this sad movie talks and acts like Allen telling a story (which we have
Heard many times before). I love most of Allen’s work (Annie Hall !) but now Dear
Woody of all our youths now is probably a good time to take a rest.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unworthy of the talent used.

This is a terrible film. Misogynistic and boring. The dialogue is stilted and dry with little other redemption. Attempting to catch a mood that falls flat. The only believable part is the amount of drinking needed to get through it.

I was quite disappointed and felt like there it's just another one of exactly the same films in just a different scenery.. very predictable and not very engrossing. Main characters lacked depth and felt out of place almost like they couldn't find any depth in their own characters themselves. Only the NY scenery and the piano music held me till the end of the film.

Boring, boring, boring.

My wife and I gave up after 20 minutes. It was our film night as well. Oh, well you can't win them all.
