How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

Lovely charming chamber piece denied cinema release by the court of metoo public opinion.
There is nothing in this film worth banning. It has been censored from the general public completely in USA so I had to buy this dvd from UK.
I detest monstrosities such as Weinstein etc but to witch-hunt every individual and tar them with the same brush is the road to destruction.

1.0 out of 5 starsDull, trivial, pointless
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 July 2020
Woody Allen has been churning these kind of pictures out for years: some are better than others - many are enjoyable. But not this one. I found both the main actors irritating - self-centred, middle-class ninnies on a trip to New York and who, through a series of unbelievable coincidences find their destinies. The dialogue felt forced; there was no tension; none of the characters were likeable. I almost didn't make it to the end (fell asleep first time round and had to go back into it to finish) and quite frankly, I wouldn't have missed anything if I hadn't.

4.0 out of 5 stars A latter day Woody Allen classic?

Considering the general reviews surrounding this film, and the lengthy delay in it actually getting released, it would be easy to assume that it wasn't very good. In my view it is very close to being a latter day classic.

It certainly has all the ingredients; the Manhattan location, a "Woody Allen like" main protagonist, perfect jazz music soundtrack, romance, cynicism, humour, a well selected cast, with the two lead actors in particular excellent, but with good work from the rest of the cast.

It all unfolds over a day, and yes it does rain! The story is slight, and highly improbable, but I found myself immersed in the little world created over this rainy weekend, and thoroughly enjoyed the film.

It may not be Annie Hall or Hannah and Her Sisters, but it's pretty good nonetheless. Not top tier then, but very good second tier, and one of my favourites of his work over the last 20 years.

Obviously the quality of Woody Allen's output varies pretty wildly these days - nobody could keep up the string of masterpieces that he was coming out with at one time, but films like this one demonstrate that his talent still burns. Not as brightly as in his younger days obviously but even a lesser film from Allen is still more interesting than the bulk of other releases.

It's a sweet romcom but with enough bite and cynicism to keep it spiky. The dialogue is from an old man who doesn't know how young people speak and it's all the better for that. He's not chasing contemporary references or worrying about authenticity - just telling a fun story. New York looks beautiful, there are some great performances, unpredictable plotting and the occasional clunker of a line but nothing that derails the film.

A very respectable addition to an amazing collection of films.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another Woody Allen classic

Whether you love or hate him, Woody Allen’s ability to cast Manhattan as a central character in his movies is sublime, and never subtle. This film is by no means deep and meaningful, but it’s cute, and Elle Fanning’s role as a slightly ditzy college student is great. The plot follows her character, Ashleigh’s weekend trip to Manhattan to interview a famous film maker for her college newspaper. Her boyfriend Gatsby, played by
Timothée Chalamet tags along. Through a series of misadventures including Gatsby kissing another girl, and hiring a hooker - and Ashleigh ending up stoned and in bed with a film star, the film darts from one New York landmark to another, and for that alone, the movie is worth watching on a rainy day.

4.0 out of 5 stars What you'd expect.

Amiable, nostalgic and charming it's everything you'd expect from a late period Allen movie. It's no Manhattan or Radio Days but is an agreeable way to spend an hour and a half. Woody needs all the support we can give him to ensure that the hysterical outrage mob don't silence a unique voice in cinema. Buy this product if you can spare the cash.

4.0 out of 5 stars Prejudices Away - this is a decent film!

A curious film to have made in 2018, but if you like Woody Allen’s back catalogue, you’ll like this. Many of the actors have withdrawn their support for the film which is why it has been ‘on ice’ for almost a year, but people are coming to their senses a bit now, in the time of the pandemic, and looking at it as a film rather than as some allegorical comment on society. It’s a film, guys! Get over it!

I put off watching this for the longest time. I'm glad that I have because a lot of the criticism seems rooted in a dislike of the director, anyone who has actually watched this couldn't criticise it in the way they have because it subtly upends the tired old ideas of older men leading younger women astray. The delivery of the lines is flawless. It irks a little from time to time with the younger actors, but I feel like that is a failure to curtail their natural energy into a more relaxed presentation. Everything is neat. The story line isn't world shattering, but it leaves you with a lot of 'well, I judged that wrong' moments that are charming and kept me from being bored.

I do think that many reviews of Woody Allens films are influenced by the perception of him as a person. I have always enjoyed his movies, they are often small stories but have charm and often linger in my mind longer than most. This is not peak Woody, but is fun, with some nice performances and great music. It made me want to go back to New York when possible and at less than a pound is a bargain.

Not a great fan of Woody Allen - watching this because of Timothee Chalamet. - and actually the film is not bad. First third a bit woody-wacky but then the story kicks in, and it's sweet and really quite funny. Chalamet is a joy, and the cinematography excellent. A nice film for a forthcoming autumn evening -

Its comfortable like coffee and cheesecake. Nice performances. No edge. A pleasant change. Romantic. Soft hearted. Mellow. Kept seeing Woody Allen playing the lead role but the guy who did play it was okay.

After enjoying this film I checked what the critics thought. Nobody liked it! I Can't help thinking that Woody Allen has been unfairly maligned, and that it is no longer acceptable to like his movies.
