How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

I first saw this film on Amazon prime, then was so impressed by it that I bought the dvd.
It's a really great comedy romance movie that keeps you entertained the whole way through.
I thourghly recommend this film.

3.0 out of 5 starsAwkward and boring
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 September 2011
Michael Cera is awkward enough on his own, but add Charlyne Yi and it was just embarrassing to watch.
Documentary styles can be good, but when it involved two awkward/geeky actors and the topic of love...-shudder-

one movie that will be watched once, and never again.

A. Kinson
1.0 out of 5 stars Not my kind of film...
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 February 2010
Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )
I was looking forward to watching "Paper Heart", particularly as I was a fan of Michael Cera as George Michael in the sadly missed "Arrested Development" TV series. I am usually able to enjoy somewhat off-beat, quirky movies, but I have to say that this is one of the most disappointing films I have ever seen. It couldn't make up its mind whether it was a film or a documentary. In fact, it came across as a documentary with some acting thrown on top of it. And some random puppets. Really.

The lead actress, Charlyne Yi, was not strong enough in her role, and none of the characters were likeable, so did not draw you into the story (the little there was of a story). It was very disjointed and I was left thinking that I've just wasted an hour and a half of my life, that I'm never going to get back.

Its a very rare thing for me to come away from a film having nothing positive to say, but I would not recommend this film at all.

VINE VOICE
1.0 out of 5 stars A fly on the wall...
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 February 2010
Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )
... would volunteer to be squished rather than sit through this unfeasably boring film. I only just managed forty minutes before suddenly wishing that I was a squished fly; believe me, this thought was more engaging and amusing than what I'd been sitting through.

Charlyne Yi is so singularly dull, I have to wonder how she can ever be billed as a musician and stand-up comedienne. She is also vapid and childish. However, I soon discovered that Michael Cera is just as sparkling. Cera had been sweetly engaging in 'Juno', but in this film he holds the viewer's interest about as much as a glass of flat beer.

Scenes re-enacting past romances and failures are rendered using home-made card and string puppets. Is this supposed to enliven the continual parade of real-life talking heads and the process through which Yi and Cera are brought together? The answer is that this distraction does not succeed. It seems that they are actually a real-life couple; a dinner party with them must really fizz.

I like cynical characters (fictional and real) to have some kind of gravitational pull to keep me watching. Yi and Cera manage to be so relentlessly dull that the film is as enjoyable as watching your granny pick at her cardie as she discusses last night's 'Corrie'. This film is unbelievably dreary. Forty minutes of my time were wasted, good thing I didn't watch the remaining 44. God only knows what I'd say then.

The Grenouille
1.0 out of 5 stars Pointless tripe
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 March 2010
This movie is very much in the spirit of its main protagonist: smug, mind-numbingly dull, artifically manufactured and soooo terribly annoying. She (I refuse to commit any neuronal power to remembering her name) walks around with that pained look-at-me-am-i-not-incredibly-cute-in-a-geeky-kind-of-way look (the answer being no!) and most importantly with nothing of substance to say about anything. If these days that kind of pointless tripe passes for charming indie fare, then give me Avatars anytime! Actually, don't ... but check out 'In Search of a Midnight Kiss' to see what genuinely good indie movie is like.

Miss Pink Lemonade
1.0 out of 5 stars Saccharine ... Epically Saccharine.
Reviewed in the United States on 29 January 2010
A hybrid documentary/scripted comedy, Paper Heart completely fails to engage it audience. It should have been an endearing film. The premise alone HAS garnered viewers. But the film itself? In a word: saccharine. No, no, that's not nearly critical enough: EXCRUCIATINGLY saccharine.

The scripted bits do not permit suspension of disbelief because the viewer is ALWAYS aware of the acting ... because it is so staggeringly atrocious. I've seen soap-operas that have more finesse. (Okay, I've never seen a soap opera but you get the point!) And, the actual interviews are complete hack: proprietors of a Las Vegas wedding chapel, a now-elderly pair of high-school sweethearts, divorce lawyers, a gay couple in NYC, professors of science, etc... The more these trite stories played-out on-screen, the more entrenched in boredom I became. I literally began to resent the film. It insults it viewers' intelligence. We have seen this before ... in fact, have you seen
When Harry Met Sally ? Remember the interludes with actual couples sharing their stories of how they met? That is this "film"!! (Minus the laughs).

Even the gags are recycled. Running a blender REPEATEDLY over someone speaking ...
Will & Grace  did it years ago (the episode entitled "Swimming Pools"). Outlaw bikers being creepy and inappropriate? Wasn't that the premise of 40% of the films in the 1970's? (The best material this crew found in the biker-bar was some dude named Jasper bestowing these pearls of wisdom about his relationship with his wife, "I love to beat her, she hates beatings." I'd hate to see what was left on the cutting room floor).

This "film" is JUST BRUTAL. Nothing about it translates as sincere.

I can usually recommend a film to SOMEONE (ex. "buy this if you love romantic comedies about zombies" or "buy this if you enjoy taxidermy"). This may keep your dog company when you're at work ... but why risk it? You like your dog, right?

1.0 out of 5 stars Paper Flat
Reviewed in the United States on 17 January 2010
I really wanted to like this movie, as it looked cute. It's Yi interviewing various couples interspersed with her own adventure in love. But after watching two-thirds of it, I gave up. There are a couple of funny bits but the whole thing feels flat - I couldn't care about Yi at all. She's just flat and boring and lifeless, barely a person at all. So what if she doesn't believe in love? I didn't believe in her character.

Paper heart? Paper thin.
