How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsAwesome - Highly Recommended if you love Sci-Fi!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 December 2019
I've followed this project from the early crowdfunding days when it was called 'Kaleidoscope Man' and am thrilled to see it completed. Whilst it may not (quite) have the slickness of your ten-a-penny Hollywood 'blockbuster' with a predictable ending we've become so used to seeing, 'Invasion Planet Earth' is an original and ambitious concept brilliantly realised by a dedicated Independent film-maker (Simon Cox). If I have to compare it but without giving too much away, I'd say it's better than the remake of 'The Day The Earth Stood Still', for all that movie's big budget & A-List cast. Very, very impressed by the end result, and happy to purchase and recommend it to anyone who loves science-fiction. And as an aside to aspiring Indie filmmakers - never give up your dreams!! Simon didn't and this is the result. Brilliant!

3.0 out of 5 starsGood and bad
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 February 2020
An independent film, made by scraping funds together over many years and with crowdfunder support, it tries so hard to be spectacular and in some ways it achieves that.

The cgi work must have taken a long time to pull together and is effective but no way has there been sufficient spent on it to make it look as good as possible. But this is indie film and what is delivered is still more adventurous and far reaching than anything else I’ve seen. It’s not great in parts, but plenty of credit to Simon for trying.

In parts the acting is very stilted. A problem of filming over time or with disjointed scenes. The crowd scenes were good with plenty of action in place. A huge story canvas with an interesting twist in the tale.

This was a film that I could have given up on but I didn’t. I didn’t because that would be disrespectful to the filmmaker who has tried, and to an extent succeeded, to give a Hollywood standard sci-fi film with a background of “no money” filmmaking.

Watch it with an open mind. It’s not the best film you’ll ever see, certainly no “Star Wars”, but it certainly above average and filled with dedication and purpose.

1.0 out of 5 stars Another Amazon B-movie.

To call this a B-movie is a discredit to B-movies . This was beyond dire.
Sound, Picture, all had the makings of someone home movie project.

It was typical of a genra of british exploitation movies, which relies on
a flashy poster to sucker in its punters. I might as well have given my
99p to charity.

Drivel Avoid.

I love science fiction and enjoy most SF films. But I found this film unwatchable and skipped quite a bit hoping it would improve. The acting is really bad and the plot incomprehensible. I should have read the reviews first. Apparently, it took nine years to make....they should never have begun. It's a shame to have wasted money on it.

1.0 out of 5 stars no script = no movie, this was garbage!

It started average and went down hill from there. Clearly they had no budget for a good story so spent it all on special effects then filled the screenplay with flash forwards that ruined the film. Then it melds into a zombie movie by that time I switched off.

1.0 out of 5 stars Messy

I don't mind a low budget, independent film that is not formulaic and one of the things low budget British cinema usually does really well is put the characters centre stage with a good script so that we can forgive cheap effects (think Dog Soldiers and Attack the Block). Unfortunately, everything about this film was awful - terrible script, almost incomprehensible plot, and unconvincing acting that felt self-conscious to the point of being distracting (but the blame for that probably lies with the director). The whole thing kind of reminds me of when I think up a new cake recipe and build a fantastic vision of it inside my own head, but what gets served up on the plate doesn't remotely resemble what I imagined.

1.0 out of 5 stars One Star for Toyah Willcox
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 January 2021

If the advert got your attention, as it did me, you'll be expecting a similar experience to a blockbuster like 'Independence Day II' ..However, the reality of this production is far from the advert. I do not like leaving negative reviews if I can help it, but this film is a real let down, tedious for the most part. I'll give it one star though, as it stars Toyah Willcox, in a role that again, if you have watched the advert, you'll wonder if Amazon are playing you the same production.

1.0 out of 5 stars It takes a lot to make me give a film a poor review

But amateurish film scores zero for everything. The story, the performances, directing, lighting, well just everything is utterly dreadful. The only good thing is Toyah Wilcox. I can't believe I wasted my money on this dire so-called film. It isn't worth the effort let alone the low budget price.

1.0 out of 5 stars Beyond dreadful – crowd-funded for a reason, I think

Simply apalling scifi movie from start to finish. The word "trite" has never had so much meaning. Dreadful plot, script, CGI, acting. Rip-off rather than homage of countless SF works. I can't possibly imagine why the studios passed on this one. I watched most of it on fast-forward, merely out of some mobid interest in seeing if it ended the way I thought it would in the first 5 min. It did. Oh dear.

1.0 out of 5 stars Random effects with no plot or sense.

Sheesh! Don't go away thinking this is a conventional SF movie. I've got an MA and I couldn't follow this plot, of random spectacular effects sewn together in a haphazard way. Cinema art it is not; what it it, is.....goodness knows. Actually, it may not be anything.....

This film could of had a big budget so it's a shame that most of it went on the paper to wright it and the jar of coffee and a packet of bourbon biscuits which seems to have push to this already poor film in to the red.
It's a shame also to see toyah wilcox in a poorly made and amateurish film
My advice is if you fancy watching this film try watching paint dry more happens

1.0 out of 5 stars Dreadful.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 July 2021

Acting is poor at best and for a film that relies so much on special effects I would have presumed they would have spent more time (and money) on them. It is so bad that its laughable in parts. Sadly, its not that funny that I would ever recommend anyone watch this dire attempt at a film.

Even reading the other comments as to how this film was made is not enough to save it from criticism. If you don't have the budget for the special effects you want, then just don't do it, think of another way of telling the story, because you are just letting yourself down.
