Gripping horror

The synopsis of this film is enough to make you want to watch it. A man wakes up in a pit full of dead bodies. He has no memory of how he got there. After escaping he enters a house full of strangers who are also extremely agitated and just like him they have all lost their memory.

The elephant in the room though is that if they are all alive then who has killed all the people? That is when the fun begins. What I really liked about this film was that it continued to surprise, I got it wrong every time I tried to guess what was coming next and that for me is a real plus.

The cast are a brilliantly disparate group too and they all do an excellent job of keeping you right on the edge of your seat. The pacing is just right; the make up spot on and even the music gets the mood just right. There is not a lot not to like here (sorry about the double negative). It was filmed in Hungary but has a feel of being American despite a cast that is International. If you like your horror’s to be a bit on the dystopian side then you should have a look at this.

Zombies with a difference

Starts really well, a man wakes up in a mass grave with total amnesia. He's stuck until a mute oriental woman lowers a rope and pulls him out. The film is a tense thriller to start with but eventually sinks into shock tactics. Well acted, well-paced, but can't someone come up with an idea that isn't basically Aliens, Predator, or zombies? What if it is a plague which has killed off most of humanity and left a lot as crazed killers? It's still a zombie gore fest. You may find it worth a watch but I wouldn't watch it again.

Group of people with memory loss try to figure out why they are surrounded by dead bodies. An turgid, plodding film that sometimes show scenes of promise, only to be dashed by the slow, disjointed direction. The pace is the real killer. What a shame - the plot and idea are excellent. With a different director this could have been such a good film.

The overall outcome and premise of this film could've been quite fun and interesting, but it's done in such a dull, drawn-out, and uneventful way. I feel like they were trying to go for the focus being on the interplay between the group, but none of the characters are really very fleshed out beyond their amnesia and memory flashbacks. Yawn.

After all the positive reviews below, I thought I'd give it a try - but was ultimately disappointed. It's a nice idea, and the acting is fine - but it's just all a bit ponderous and unexciting. And the big reveal doesn't really make any sense. OK - here is the SPOLER ALERT.

Seriously, if the mute girl was so important to the possible survival of the entire human race - don't you think she would have been a bit better protected? The powers that be just dump her in the middle of nowhere with some medical scientists and a few "security guards", and loads of zombies, in the hope that they will stumble on a cure? She would be in some ultra-high security ring-of-steel facility, surrounded by the military with nobody allowed in or out, and all the high-end medical technology that you could shake a stick at! Sorry, but when film-makers assume their audience is so dumb - well maybe most of us are.

Grave misgivings....

Sorry to say, but I found this film rather disappointing - I only decided to watch it in the light of some of the more positive reviews on here. It starts off promisingly enough, but it's all downhill from there, & never really gets going. It's slow, doesn't make a lot of sense, none of the characters are particularly likeable, & it's not really what I'd class as a 'horror' movie per se. It's hard to say much about the plot without giving away spoilers, so it's probably best to judge for yourself.
It's vaguely interesting as a low-budget time-filler if you can stay the course, but that's about all. If I were you, I wouldn't waste your money - there are much better films out there than this. Probably the best thing about it is the DVD cover!

Annoyingly loud....'dialogue' mostly consists of shouting, screaming and wailing. Characters unlikeable. Confused and ultimately boring plot.... I watched it to the grim end, but it wasn't worth the effort of having to put up with so much noise.
