How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

Amy of Darkness
5.0 out of 5 starsBeautiful film and scary as hell!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 31 October 2019
This is an amazingly tense and thoughtful film - sadly it seemed to disappear under the radar for many horror fans. I saw it at FrightFest and was waiting for UK distribution so how exciting that it is finally on amazon. They Look Like People is a wonderful portrayal of mental health and paranoia that is equal amounts scary and moving but also makes some interesting points about toxic masculinity and male friendship that is rarely explored in film. Great script, nuanced acting and lovely sound design - it reminds me of Jacob's Ladder or Session 9. Scary as hell!

1.0 out of 5 starsOne of the best worst movies I've ever seen.

1) One question - who has been giving this five start reviews?!
2) What I've learnt - My perseverance abilities are far greater than I thought.
3) True story > The scariest part of this film is a sock fight.
4) Finally - this could very well be in the top five of the best worst movies I have ever seen ! Hence the 1 star :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Perry Blackshear has potential to be a big-name/big-budget director in the future

What people giving this a low rating fail to understand is that it was probably made on a TINY budget by a director just starting out. The acting isn't over the top. I thought it was pretty understated - semi-realistic/natural. The film is almost entirely character-based. On the strength of this, I think Perry Blackshear has serious potential as a future big-name director. What he managed to do with some serious limitations is pretty impressive.

Would I watch it again? Probably not. But I can say the same for hundreds of other movies - many I've also enjoyed.

4.0 out of 5 stars A decent low key effort

A low key film about mental illness (psychosis) played out in a fairly suggestive manner with very occasional audio and visual hallucination sequences. The friendship between the two leads is very convincing which is just as well the cast is very small. If you have a good understanding and interest in mental health you will probably get more out of it. Not too long either which makes a change.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not what it appears to be

Mild SPOILERS...

I think the people rating this 1 star have spectacularly missed the subtext of this film - to be fair it shouldn't really be billed as a horror movie (but the same goes for several titles I've watched on Shudder, go figure) - it is a film about the horrors of living with untreated schizophrenia, and for me the only truly scary part of the film is how the two female characters react to Wyatt with fear, ridicule, threats and even violence, when he actually causes them no harm whatsoever, thereby reducing an otherwise charming and kind man tormented by complex mental illness to nothing more than a generic 'dangerous weirdo' figure, rather than recognising that he needs help; a concept far scarier than shape shifting demons if you ask me.

If you're expecting a horror film you'll be disappointed, if you go in expecting a slow-burn drama about friendship and how horrific real-life can be for people who simply don't fit in, you might just end up being pleasantly entertained

4.0 out of 5 stars A poignant portrayal on mental health!

This film is not your everyday horror movie however it did bring to life the very horrors some mentally ill people have to face everyday - something we are not all very aware of unfortunately. It gives a tense and somewhat scary at times insight into the mind of a person with schizophrenia. Yes it is low budget and the acting is questionable at times but this is more of a psychological thought-provoking film revealing just how delicate the human mind can be.

4.0 out of 5 stars An outlook on living with schizophrenia

Its not very scary and i wouldnt call it horror. It's more psychological. Ive known a few people who have schizophrenia and this just gives us a perspective on what living with it and mental illness can be like. As well as the impact it can have on loved ones.
