Mitch and the gang before the popularity of the beach running made this series the most watch TV programme on the planet! Very watchable if not a little cheesy at times. But as the season progressed, it made me wish I could get the next 10 seasons! So that will be an eventual target!

The sound quality of this series drops in and out and pilot is not well acted. David Hasslehoff seems uncomfortable in it. Any Pamela Anderson fans need bot buy it as she comes in later seasons.

Finally on DVD but....

Nice to get the original and best season of Baywatch on DVD. However after taking the plunge and buying the set my suspicions were confirmed in that sadly the original opening theme of this series 'Save Me' by Peter Cetera has been replaced on all the episodes by the rights friendly track by Kim Carnes. Which can be heard currently on the UKTVGOLD repeats of season 1. It's not a bad song, but it doesn't fit the visuals as well and it's not better than 'Save Me'. A shame, but what can you do? There is no R1 set of this season as they are starting with season 2 and including episodes of S1 as extras. From what I've read they have also replaced the theme music, even the familiar later theme has been replaced by some Hoff penned monstrosity. There are german releases of Baywatch on DVD, but I don't know if they have the original music or not.

If you want series one this set is still worth buying.

Update: I understand the german releases which can be bought from German Amazon have the correct theme music. They contain an english soundtrack as well obviously.

Baywatch starring the 'Hoff' fresh from Knightrider burst onto ITV way back in 1989. There must be few people in the world who have not seen this series if only to see the stunning girls !. It concerns the lives of the Malibu lifeguards who patrol the sun soaked beaches in there tight red swim suits. Over the 22 episodes of this first series they not only battle waves but crime in the area which is a bit far fetched. Having watched some episodes again it stikes me all these years on how flimsy the plot's are. In the first real series episode Hobi who's Mitch's son gets involved with some renegade Jet ski riders who kill a Girl on a surf board. And that really sums up the rest of the series with little to recommend it other than the stunning Erika Elinyak !. I also feel disapointed that the great Theme tune 'Save Me' has been replaced on the set. I presume it's a right's issue again ? but it spoils the whole feel of the series. There are no special features at all so all in all it's a good buy for the real fan but avoid if your not.

I Only Watch This for the Amazing Drama. Not for the Ladies in Bikinis!

I have heard that some people watch this strictly to look at the beautiful women running along the beach in slow motion wearing skimpy bikinis. I am not one of those people… Honestly! I watch this because Mitch Buchannon is a stand-up guy and a fantastic role model. Also, it’s such a well written drama series with intense plots and interesting characters. If you believe that, you will believe anything and I would like to invite you to invest in an offshore Diamond mine on the island of Zamunda.

I am only giving this 3 stars because the beautiful Californian ladies in tiny bikinis take the attention away from the sublime story lines and the wisdom of the one and only Mitch Buchannon.

A dated TV series by now!

This TV series follows a bunch of lifeguards who work on a made up beach for the show. The show follows the personal life's away from where they work too. If you are over 30 years old you would probably remember this TV series being on ITV on Saturday 5pm slot. In the early to mid 1990s a lot USA TV shows made it too British Television. I remember these TV series ran for several seasons after the first season aired.

Before Pamela Denise Anderson Lee (not actual name) came along there was Shawn Weatherly, as Jill Riley. I always preferred her over the dire Erika Eleniak, and was SO angry when the show chose to focus more on the blonde bimbo than the real star of the show. But I digress, Baywatch here, without certain big boobies, is only watchable when Jill has a starring role, otherwise it's worse than Cheryl Tweedy. The Hoff is diabolical. The entire show is excrement. But I'll always cherish my favourite all time character Jill and the meagre storylines she was afforded. I seem to remember that there were at least two instances of bare breasts in the pilot ep "Panic at Malibu Pier" but I can't remember if they, the boobies, appear on this version of the box set. Speaking of the pilot Madchen Amick, from Twin Peaks, appears as an unhinged young woman who attempts to murder a character, played by a different actress in the pilot.

Nice to see, but missing episoids

It was great to see some of the episoids that I haven't seen uncut in more than 10 years; unfortunately, whoever has packed this DVD collection made some critical mistakes. First of all, the episodes that are in this season 1 collection are not actually from season 1. In fact, I believe that they are actually from season 3. In the actual season 1, there were the episodes that in addition to David Hasselhoff, Billy Warlock, and Erika Eleniak also starred Parker Stevenson, Brandon Call, Peter Phelps, and Shawn Wetherly. I'm sure all Baywatch fans remember the episodes that I'm talking about like the JetSki Murder, Earthquake, Mitch's Hangliding Accident, Shawni's abusive boyfriend, Jill's Death by Shark, and many more. To make matters worse, whoever recorded these episodes has changed most if not all of the music including the opening credits. In some cases, it doesn't really matter, but in others for instance the episode "Thin or Die" where scences were originally cut to fit the music that was originally there, and now it just doesn't quite work as well as it used to do. Other than these two mistakes (big though they may be), like I said before it's great to see them again.

Okay - did anybody actually buy this thing & keep it? Because I got it & Season 2 & by the looks of it Eddie & Shauni's wedding is on NEITHER of them!!!! Same with that storm drain episode where Hobie (Jeremy Jackson) pulls that prank & Mitch yells at him for it later on. They showed clips of all this in the episode where Mitch almost dies because he free-style dived too deep - but I haven't seen them & Eddie & Shauni aren't in Season '2' so how the Heck am I to see their wedding!?!?!?!?! Or is their wedding in the REAL Season 1??? And has anybody else's DVDs skipped like a VHS tape would when the tracking is off??? Please Help!!!!!
