How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

4.0 out of 5 starsBehind the muscles....
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 April 2020
This was the 2md time that I'm watching this.

The personalities behind the characters on stage are quite varied, but this film looks at the darker, brooding side of what goes on off the stage.

Some of the stereotypes of bodybuilders ring true and others are broken.

A good insight into what goes on in the minds of a highly disciplined and competitive sport.

3.0 out of 5 starsLess than cheerful
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 June 2016
This documentary is a downbeat look at the ruthless world of competitive bodybuilding, and its self-absorbed competitors.

The documentary is well made, but it is hampered by the absence of any character in the story who is light-hearted, let alone funny or out-going. These bodybuilders take themselves very seriously.

This film's most memorable personality is Kai Green, who comes across as sad. He appears to be depressed and solitary, and there is something that strikes you as heart-breaking about his situation.

In comparison with the famous "Pumping Iron" of 30 years ago (which featured a funny and watchable star, Schwarzenegger), "Generation Iron" leaves you feeling generally less cheerful about this tough sport.

not a patch on pumping iron which was full of characters with personality, those featured here are boring and lifeless maybe with the exception of kai greene. Massive dissapointment after all the hype

2.0 out of 5 stars Weak in content
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 December 2014
A modern retake on the classic Pumping iron, but feels a lot more forced and lacks the humor and characters of the original. Overall far too much focus is put on trying to exaggerate the characters "plucky underdog from the streets" and "arrogant golden boy who has it easy" mixed in with cod philosophy and far too much scripting. These guys just arent as interesting or as glamorous as Arnie, Lou and others of the golden 70's generation.
Training sequences focus on gurning and dripping with sweat rather than giving a real insight into how they genuinely train or the wider issues in the sport.
Production values are high but it really does suffer from being paper thin in content.

Watch Pumping Iron instead or go to the gym.

2.0 out of 5 stars Boring and Sombre
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 September 2014
Like a few people have mentioned rather boring and sombre experience to watch. I like Pumping Iron with Arny, but this just came across as no character and feeling. mickey rourke voice over is also dull as well as the music which is rather depressing. One funny bit and seeing Mike Katz in the last 5 seconds!
It felt like no training was shown, so really not worth the watch.

Not that great. Somehow I expected more. I thought it would show more competitors, and what they had to say about competing in this sport, but it didn't. Pumping Iron is still the standard to go by because it gave such a great variety of competitors on their training and how they planed to compete when the big show grew closer.
