How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

4.0 out of 5 starsBehind the muscles....
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 April 2020
This was the 2md time that I'm watching this.

The personalities behind the characters on stage are quite varied, but this film looks at the darker, brooding side of what goes on off the stage.

Some of the stereotypes of bodybuilders ring true and others are broken.

A good insight into what goes on in the minds of a highly disciplined and competitive sport.

3.0 out of 5 starsLess than cheerful
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 June 2016
This documentary is a downbeat look at the ruthless world of competitive bodybuilding, and its self-absorbed competitors.

The documentary is well made, but it is hampered by the absence of any character in the story who is light-hearted, let alone funny or out-going. These bodybuilders take themselves very seriously.

This film's most memorable personality is Kai Green, who comes across as sad. He appears to be depressed and solitary, and there is something that strikes you as heart-breaking about his situation.

In comparison with the famous "Pumping Iron" of 30 years ago (which featured a funny and watchable star, Schwarzenegger), "Generation Iron" leaves you feeling generally less cheerful about this tough sport.

I agree Kai Green Was The only person with actual real character and personality that brought the art of bodybuilding to the show. But it's unfortunate and a shame that the heavy weight bodybuilding it's not the same as the golden era the best years or heavy weight bodybuilding was from the early years 50s - 90s 1991 after lee haney won the year after the year of the freak show began it's not art any more i don't even know what to even call it anymore i wouldn't even bother watching these guy's even if you gave me a free ticket is disgusting the fact that the judges are even allowing this type of behaviour it's crazy im not trying to disrepect this guys but the people who are in charge for allow this

1.0 out of 5 stars Pro-dope and lies about the facts around steroids.

Glorifies taking drugs to win as an acceptable part of a normal sport. Even states no one ever died from taking steroids. This film should get an R rating if it is going to peddle a pro drugs message to people wanting to get into a sport.

What a wasted opportunity, an entire film on bodybuilding and not a single shot on training. Who cares on painting hobby of Kai Geene or seeing Branch falling from his horse and finally Phil Heath on the bathtub? Ridiculous. And Phil Heath is not Arnold, not even close; also the topic on steroids, should have been much more developed as its influence in bodybuilding is huge, despite all their training, their bodies would be half their size without all drugs they take. A waste of time and money, avoid it at all cost.

1.0 out of 5 stars Warts and all (without the warts)
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 July 2014
Sugar coated boring tale that answers no questions that matter and answers loads of questions that don;t matter. Ludicrous opinions are not challenged by the director such as Ben Pakulski's comment (suggesting it's not about chemicals) "you couldn't do what I do" BS, a friend of mine trained for 8 years natural and had 16 inch arms, he took roids within 12 months he had 21.5 inch arms and 7% bodyfat, so yes we can ALL do it EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US, the only single question is to what level of personal safety are we willing to risk, the more you are willing to risk the bigger you will get, and what separates us from them is an unwillingness to risk our health, nothing else, the less respect you have for your own life the better bodybuilder you'll be.

Then Phil Heath comes in with another unchallenged piece of pure nonsense "we are a tiny percent of people who can build muscle and lose fat at the same time" yes that's because steroids enable the body to do that, HGH does too very effectively, tyroxin and other thyroid drugs, insulin, etc etc etc. What was that? is he in denial? self deluded? just google Kevin Levrone before and after, 90% of the whole sport is about chemicals, with 1% genetics, 1% hard work and a final 8% for diet. Which is fine, but do the documentary properly or just don't do it at all.
