5.0 out of 5 starsCheap bootlaces and much more!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 December 2019
I wear workboots everyday except Christmas day. In wet conditions, the bootlaces supplied with most boots soon become weak and frayed and eventually snap.
I keep a drum of webtex paracord in my car, and I can cut a pair of bootlaces with a lighter in just a few seconds. Not that I've used that many, but in theory you could get 50 pairs of 1m laces for only 20p a pair, which is very cheap.

A really strong, versatile product, and everyone should have some. I've lost count of the number of times it's proved it's usefulness.

3.0 out of 5 starsDoes what it says on the tin
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 November 2011
I plan on pitching tarps and hanging a hammock with this cord. It holds a knot quite well and seems reasonably robust. Although no snap weight was included for this product in the description, I consistently saw 1m of the cord snapping at around the 75kg mark. Not bad for a 100m of the cheap stuff. I'll be doubling up for the hammock! I can certainly get plenty of tension on the cord for guy lines and ridge lines and the cord doesn't elongate too much under tension. For rigging and lightweight support, great. Don't plan on rappelling or using this to secure very heavy loads!

My only real gripe about this purchase was the spool that the whole thing came on. As soon as I took it from the packet, the spool actually BROKE APART in my hands! This left me with a 100m birds nest of 3mm cordage on the floor. Not cool, Web-Tex! Not cool!

I ended up cutting it into 3 sections and untangling that ungodly mess - 100m is actually quite a lot! :)

I'd appreciate if a small dab of glue held the spool together. Other than this, good purchase for the price and quantity.

5.0 out of 5 stars GOOD PRODUCT, GREAT PRICE
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 May 2017
Colour Name: GreenVerified Purchase
Decent quality cord with a nation of uses for outdoor activities although it is more like a thick braided shoelace than paracord.
It is not as tightly made as 'proper' paracord but since the breaking strain is up to 100kg it's easily strong enough for hanging tarps, making shelters, traps, guy lines etc. etc.
Knot strength seems good too but I guess that varies with the type of knot tied and how well it is tied - I haven't broken it yet.
Obviously the reel is too big to carry about in a backpack but is a very useful item for replenishing a smaller dispenser which would be carried in a backpack (see pictures).
The 100m roll I got filled 4 dispensers easily and I only noticed one join in the whole roll, just as the first dispenser was getting full so it was a convenient place to cut it before loading the next dispenser.
You get what you pay for and at this price you get a lot for your money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Decent, shoe lace thick paracord
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 May 2021
Colour Name: GreenVerified Purchase
So the only things to note here are that it is indeed proper paracord, it is about shoe lace thickness and it is indeed very good value for money.

I bought this one specifically because thinner, rather than thicker paracord is more versatile. Shoe lace snapped? Fixed. Squirrels defiled your tarp hangings? Fixed. Your kids are running wild in camp and causing mayhem? Fixed.
It's probably not the best for certain things though - e.g. if you're creating knots to hold the cord either side of a grommet on a tent (as the knots will be pretty thin or you will have to do lots).

It's very strong, I tested it with my weights before leaving and these will happily take the entire weight of my long-trip pack (about 20kg).

Great value, I've seen the same (but branded) paracord go for twice the price in climbing shops.

PS
5.0 out of 5 stars Great value. Note this is not paracord (550).
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 January 2013
Colour Name: GreenVerified Purchase
Great value product. This paracord in particular is advertised with a 70kgs break.
Over the last 3 years have virtually used a full role for a variety of things, outdoor pursits, garden, house.. and Im back to buy another spool. I've never had an issue with the spool, so can't comment, maybe just something people ought to be aware of.

Paracord is available in many grades, both with core strands and with no core. So these guys advertising this as paracord, well, its not incorrect. What people generally associate with paracord is the Paracord(550) grade III with a core of 7 strands - this is rated to 550lbs/250kgs break. The paracord 550 is dearer, cheapest I've seen it is £7.50 per 30m delivered. So around about double of the cost.

So its horses for courses. If you have a heavier requirement use paracord 550, for lighter duties use this one.

I usually have a generous supply of both and does me very well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good enough quality for what I need

I'm frequently in a position where I could do with a bit of string to hold or tie something up but never have anything. decided to purchase a roll of this to keep in the shed for time when needed. Used a bit to tie a piece of drainpipe in the garden that needs holding in place. Seems strong and durable enough for my needs so can recommend it. Once you cut a length, just run the end s through a naked flame and it will seal them to stop the ends fraying.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great cord, bad reel
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 June 2022

As other reviewers have said, this is a brilliantly versatile 3mm paracord with an approx 70kg breaking strain, great for everyday uses. BUT! also as other have said, the reel it comes on is rubbish. I was using 5 reels on a project where I had to run between multiple points, tied off an end, dropped the reel on the floor to come down stepladder... 1.5m drop... reel breaks, cord is a bird's nest of tangled chaos. This happened to 3 reels. Come on, Web Tex, spend 10p more on a better reel!

4.0 out of 5 stars Strong, never failed me
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 June 2022

This is the second time I’ve bought this product. I use it for guy lines for all my camping tarps and ridge lines. It’s even strong enough to take my weight in a hammock used as tree straps but I wouldn’t recommend this long term. Holding my tarps down in some very strong winds it has never failed me after 5 or 6 years of use. Gave it 4 stars because the plastic reel came apart on both products. I put some glue on a stick and rubber it inside the tube and secured the end back.

Mister G
5.0 out of 5 stars Great cord. Handy to have ready & waiting in the house.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 June 2013
Colour Name: GreenVerified Purchase
I thought I'd write a review as some of the negative reviews put me off buying this, yet I have not experienced any of those problems.

People have reported the plastic spool breaking. Mine arrived fine despite being wrapped solely in one of those thick plastic postage bags i.e. there was nothing else (such as an Amazon box or bubble wrap) to protect it. Had the plastic spool arrived broken, it would not have been a problem - I would have reported it to Amazon and posted it back post-free.

As for people reporting the paracord unravelling from the reel, I have not had that problem. I simply put a large elastic band around the reel to prevent it. For a week I did not do that and still had no problem. Frankly, it the same as a reel of anything. If you treat it badly then it can become tangled. But it seems easy to prevent it.

To prevent the paracord itself unravelling, I melt the ends with a lighter every time I cut a piece off.

People have also reported that this is not 'proper' paracord based on its relatively low breaking strain. This seems to be a misconception. There are various grades of paracord, all with different breaking strains - Type I, IA, II, IIA, III and IV, with a *minimum* breaking strength ranging from approximately 43 to 340 kg (Type I and Type IV respectively). The seller lists the *maximum* breaking strain of this paracord as 70 kg so it appears to be Type I or Type IA. For most of my jobs that is absolutely fine.

At the same time as buying this I bought some type III paracord (a.k.a. '550 cord', so called because it has a minimum breaking strength of 550 lb which is equivalent to 249 kg) from Amazon. It cost twice the price per metre. So it just depends what you are looking for.

I have found this very useful for those jobs in the house that just crop up, as well as for bushcraft. Within two weeks of buying it on a whim, I suddenly found I needed some cord for a job in the house.

I just hope that people don't religiously trust the advertised breaking strain in cases where failure would cause a problem.

Great product. I'm looking forward to using it this summer for bushcraft.

Kalense
5.0 out of 5 stars 3mm thick braided nylon cord strong enough for my purposes
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 June 2013
Colour Name: GreenVerified Purchase
I did not buy this cord expecting 4mm type III military parachute cord, but something more like type I. That’s exactly what I got – green braided nylon cord 3mm thick and strong enough for any purpose I might put it to.

Military grade cord contains a core made up of 7 inner 2- or 3-ply yarns. This cord does not – its core is made up of hundreds of extremely fine strands, not organised into ply or braids. As a consequence, when you cut it, the end frays immediately (almost explosively!) and you will probably want to have to hand a means of sealing it as soon as you have cut it.

You can’t unravel this cord and expect to use the inner ply to sew things up – the internal threads are so fine you can hardly see them individually.

I have loaded a single strand of the cord to 40kg. At 40kg the cord stretches enough to make me think it isn’t going to take a lot more, but I have not yet tested it to breaking point. The cord is easily strong enough for most things I’d want to use it for – guy ropes, attaching a sandbag under my tripod, replacing boot laces and so on.

Other reviewers had trouble with the reel falling apart. The reel I received feels solid, and I can detect no give or play in it at all.

Would I buy the same again? Sure.
