4.0 out of 5 starsLight leisure trousers and available in one length only

In the very hot summer of 2018, it's good to find some lightweight but still apparently hard-wearing cotton trousers.
I thing the label "utility" refers to the simplicity of the cut - these trousers have the aesthetic that they're made out of two flat-cut pieces of cloth. The cut is actually rather more complex for comfort, but they look very simple. The stitching is all doubled, and finished properly (except the waist buttonhole on my pair - I'm not sure if that's a design choice or a slight mis-stitch). The pockets are stitched onto the outside, not cut through, with two button pockets at the back and two open pockets at the front. The depth of the pocket is just sufficient that you shouldn't suffer any unexpected key-loss, although I'd have preferred a little deeper. There's no stretch on the waist band.
The lengths, or rather length singular, is a bit odd. You can have any waist you like (28" to 42" at time of writing), but they're all 32" long. For me, that means turning them up, which is fine and easy to achieve. If I had much longer legs, I'm not sure my ankles would appreciate being exposed. I suppose the lack of length choice goes with the utility aesthetic.
I said "apparently" hard-wearing, because they're not. The fabric rips relatively easily, and it's all to easy to get small holes appearing. Don't even think about doing anything strenuous while wearing these trousers.
Incidentally, the trousers need washing before first use to soften them up.
