Bellows Tongue Can be Uncomfortable

The folding bellows, which seal the tongue to the body of the shoe to keep water and debris out, needs careful wearing in so that when it folds it does not press onto the instep. If you take care to fold the bellows so you can't feel a ridge each time you put them on while the shoes are new you will get years of comfortable wear out of these Merrells.

I am an avid hiker. My first pair of Merrells lasted a year -- I was hoping for longer. This pair is my second try for Merrell. The boot is comfortable, but the sole is not as stiff as I prefer (I can feel more of the trail than I prefer). The rubber area around the toe (comes up from the sole) is already coming loose, but I do already have a couple hundred miles on the new pair. I like the breatheability and the weight. The waterproof label is reliable for a boot of this type. So I guess it comes down to what kind of hiking you do and how much. I think the Merrell product is prolly a pretty reasonable hiker for the weekend warrior kinduv hiker.

This is my second pair. The first pair lasted a couple of years. They are really well built. After a couple of years of hiking, standing all day at work, yard work, walking all over the place the outsole is in good shape. The whole outer of this shoe is VERY rugged. It is made of bombproof materials and stitched together in a way that no seams have let go.
The reason I bought a new pair is because the insides wore out. I mostly slip on my shoes and the heel cup is worse for the wear after a lot of use. It is an accepted fact that I deal with as a part of my shoe experiences. Even shoes I do not slip on end up wearing out in the back. The foot bed is not as soft as I would make it but, it is supportive and I like the flex of the sole. I have not found a better shoe in this category.

Toe design has changed

I've been buying this shoe for many years, because I like the way it fits & looks. But in this latest order, the design of the toe has changed - there's now a lot more of the 'vented' cloth above the toe. I'm not sure if the new design is better or worse from a technical & fit standpoint, but I think it looks worse. I think the new design makes the shoe look "too wide" (I do wear a 13 wide ... but I don't want it to 'look' wider than necessary due to the design).

Good shoe, but waterproof feature reduces breathability

I had the earlier (non-water-proof) version of this shoe for several years, and I liked it so much I decided to get this latest waterproof version. This shoe fits slightly smaller, so I had to go up one-half size. It's a bit stiffer than my first pair, but has good arch support and excellent tread grip, even in wet conditions. My only challenge is with the breathability of the shoe. The waterproof feature clearly reduces the airflow, resulting in sweaty feet even in 60 degree weather, so I suspect hot days this summer will lead to some damp socks from the inside out. I'm doing some notable hiking soon, so eager to give it a go.

Slightly under sized toe box

I do like the shoe overall but it does have a slightly smaller toe box. I have been working to break the shoes in and it is loosening up some however. I also tried on the non waterproof version and the toebox was not nearly as tight. Not sure if that has something to do with the different versions or if it's just the specific shoe I had.

Do keep in mind when buying a waterproof shoe that your feet won't breathe nearly as well and you will tend to get sweating more often.

Fits a bit tighter than the original Moab

I would have given these a 5 star rating, but the Moab 2 shoe fits a bit tighter than the original Moab. I have a wide foot and the 3 year old shoes I was replacing were the original Moab shoes in a Wide width. These Moab 2 shoes(ordered in Wide width) definitely fit a bit narrower than the original. However, after wearing for a few days, they did loosen up a bit and now fit very comfortably. The waterproof coating has been working great trudging through snow and slush!

These are my go-to shoes for hiking, work, and daytime pub crawls. I have a pair that I use often and have a new pair on hand to rotate in when the others get ratty. I have a wide foot at 10-1/2 which is tough to find. I will buys these as long as they are available.
Not good for sporting like football, basketball, or any running as the ankle is high. Best to stick with walking/hiking/yardwork/work.

Great shoe but only good when rainy or cold. My feet sweat in them which is very unusual . This is the fist pair of shoes this has happened. Otherwise a great shoe. I ordered a pair of ventilators to see if that shoe is better for everyday. I’m keeping the Moab 2 wp but will use them for cold rainy weather

Run a Little Narrow

I like the comfort of these when walking and that says a lot because I have bad arches. However, they are cut a little narrow and I find myself taking them off as soon as I get home. I wish I had ordered the wider size. Had I done that, these are 5 stars all day long!
