How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsGreat boots, great price !
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 January 2020
I wore these boots around the house for a while to break them in before going out and about in them. I was surprised at how light and comfortable they are. I bought them to wear wild camping, lots of mud and wet grass, so far so good. They are not waterproof but they are water resistant. I've treated mine with a leather and textile waterproof product and that helps somewhat. I wear a size 10 normally and ordered the same here, more good news they fit perfectly. With big boots come lots of laces but with these laces, lace them once then use the zip. The long and short of it I like the boots alot and unless they fall apart on me I won't be adding to this review. I'm glad I bought them especially at this price.

2.0 out of 5 stars Buy Cheap Buy Twice!!!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 February 2018

I bought these December 2017 and have found them to be a bit lacking. I'm a police officer and bought them due to wanting a cheap boot with a side zip and they seem to be a good purchase. However having walked many a step in these boots the old adage of buy cheap buy twice has never been so true!!! The upper is not too bad and was quite comfortable but took about a week to really break in but I have now notice a couple of very small tears in places. But my main gripe is the sole.....Its very thin and I can feel every slight undulation and shape of the ground through them which makes for some pretty uncomfortable steps. This is why I've given them a low rating.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don’t buy shoddy sole
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 April 2019

Bought a pair at the start of February it’s now mid April and they have had it. If you wear reasonably thick socks you need to go a size up. Buying a pair of insoles is recommended as the foot bed is very thin. I have now totally destroyed the footbed and the insides of the sole are now visible. The heel on both boots has cracked and split and let’s in water. I walk about five miles a day indoors on a four day on four day off cycle so they don’t get massive amounts of wear. They do polish well however but sadly let down by the sole and footbed. Can’t really recommend on anything but cheapness. Buy a pair of magnums instead or a pair of DM’s.
This was my second pair my first lasted a bit longer and I thought I had perhaps had a bad pair as other reviews seemed ok. I won’t get a third pair, I shouldn’t have bought the second pair.

3.0 out of 5 stars Could have been so much better
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 March 2019
Size Name: 8 UKVerified Purchase
These boots offer a different story for the upper and the lower parts. The uppers are generally good, but the quality of the lower parts let the product down badly.

First, the positives:
I particularly like this design of boot where the tightness can be optimised by the lace while the side-zip enables it to be fitted quickly, which is very useful given the limited range of movement of one of my hips. Furthermore, I ordered my regular size and it fitted correctly. So far, in the four months I've been wearing them, I can't really criticise the upper part of the boots, other than two small details mentioned below.

Now the negatives:
1. The outsole of the boots is far too soft, which means the feet can hurt when treading on bumpy ground, particularly cobblestones.
2. After approximately three months of wear, the mid-soles, which are also far too thin and flimsy, have begun to break away from the rubber sole below.
3. The inner-sole area is badly designed. It's flat and soft, offering poor foot support, thus causing pronation.
4. The rubber sole can leave dark deposit marks on flooring.
5. The toe-cap area inside the right boot was finished roughly, causing an eventual slight collapse on the outside, making it look a little unsightly.
6. The flap at the top of the zip should be at least one centimetre longer to enable better mating of the velcro. The current design is prone to separating, causing the zip to undo.
7. Stiff nylon thread excess at the top of the zip caused a small sore on my leg, although I was able to cut it right back with scissors with no problem.

UPDATE: I began wearing these boots in early February, 2019; it's now early November and I've just noticed a hole that has appeared at the rear underside of the left heel due to wear. This heel section should have been a bit thicker because it doesn't need to flex.

These are awesome. I didn't know what to expect as frankly I've been wearing addidas and lowas for years. When my lowas were unexpectedly distroyed by a trip in the washing machine (don't ask) I bought these as financially I couldn't justify more lowas when frankly I batter shoes at work and they get covered in all kinds of disgusting Ming and ick.
I am pretty much a sample size 7 1/2. I bought the 8s becuase these don't come in half sizes. I think next time I would get a 7 just becuase these are too big and are getting bigger where they are leather and they stretch. They are a little bit sweaty but frankly so is every boot I've ever tried. I think I'm just a sweaty person. I don't think I would recommend these for any kind of really intense, running, jumping, climbing, obstacle coursing but for daily wear so walking, driving, occasionally running and a whole lot of sitting. These are perfect. Easy to clean, water resistant (enough), fast drying and light. I would estimate they would last me maybe 6-8 months (but I am TOUGH on shoes) and my expensive £100 + ones we're lasting me maybe 12-14 months. So financially these make much more sense. (Not for the environment...)

Edit to add picture and 6month update.
I have had these for around 6 months. They are battered. Soles have worn through and are peeling away from the uppers so not waterproof anymore (they are also not sweaty anymore). Also the velcro has come off the zip cover and laces are a bit broken. Attached photo shows present condition. I am a slob and don't look after my shoes properly and when I do polish them it is will the black sqeezy stuff. They are COMFY but fit more like a Welly than say a trainer. They don't hug my foot and I can feel my feet and ankles wobbling about it them. Also if I do anything too strenuous my socks fall down and I have to pull them up again. BUT the zip up side is wonderful. I think I've always been a bit snobby about zip up boots (maybe becuase I do like a more snug fit) but the zip is sooooo convenient. I can just whip them off to; pull my socks off or when I get in or if someone asks me to inside their house. So I've been gifted lowas for my birthday and if money was no object, yeah I'd always get a big brand but if I had to pay out of pocket. I'd definitely buy these again

Theres not too much padding in some areas, but not enough in other areas like around the feet to make it snug, I wore these for two weeks putting them through a ringer on exercise and I came out with horrendous blisters due to the extra room that I had in the actual boot, my altbergs are size 7 so I went with the same size for these as a spare, should of got a smaller size that's what I would recommend and for the fact that the only reason I got them was for the fact that I didn't have to faff on with laces when getting woken up to engage a contact at stupid o'clock in the pitch dark forest, getting your kit on rapid and returning fire is essential when you can cut out the faff like laces, you just yeet them on and zip no problemo, the other issue is that the sole of the boot is ridiculously thin, I could feel every single rock on the path and made the insertion tab excruciating so unfortunately it gets a 3/5 but as an everyday boot with some thick socks it's not too bad

5.0 out of 5 stars Value For Money
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 May 2016
Size Name: 7 UKVerified Purchase
I bought these for my 12 year old son for school. He's only had them a day but from first impressions I think you get a lot for your money.
I have recently bought a pair of similar styled Magnum boots for myself. Dependant on how these wear I may get a pair next time.
They seem very well constructed. Solid sole and the leather looks up to the job with a decent insole. The zip also looks like it has been constructed to put up with some abuse.
These are not steel toe capped but have a reinforced toe to keep its shape and feels pretty solid.
There is no wear-in period. He says they where comfortable from the off.
Doesn't state anywhere whether they are waterproof or not but a good dollop of dubbin on them tonight will help ensure water resistance.
He's returned from school a happy, foot ache free, little chap so for now top marks.

Three months later and still no problems. I have put a more comfortable insole in them though.

These are great looking and comfortable boots for the money paid, people have complimented on on my choice. The reality is: that the soles on these boots are not very durable.
I purchased these boots purely for me to walk to work and back. A distance of half a mile at best, a total of maybe a mile a day. When I get to to work I change into my steel toe capped boots for my shift. In the space of seven months I've managed to wear a hole into the sole of the left boot and almost completely removed the tread pattern on the right boot.
Up to this point I had absolutely no problems with this item.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good quality Non-steel toecap boots
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 June 2019
Size Name: 10 UKVerified Purchase
I was expecting these to come with a steel toecap, as the picture of the boot clearly shows the boot to have an internal toecap. Never the less these are a nice fitting and comfortable pair of boots. I've been wearing them nearly everyday since I bought them in February 2019, so 4 months in and they're still going strong as they should, nothings fallen off, collapsed of broken - yet (nothing lasts forever).
I have inserted a gel insole into both of these as the steel shank does nothing to help the fatigue in my feet.
The only real problem, as others have mentioned, is the nylon stitching on the inside, at the top of the zip, it is very rough and continues to chaff on my legs, if I don't roll the tops of my socks over the rim of the boots - this also stops my socks diappearing down inside the boot and working themselves off of my feet as I wear them.
For this reason and because the boots in the pic appear to have a steel toecap and these don't, I have dropped the boots 1 star. But I find they are still good value for my money.
If you want to increase the waterproof qualities of this boot, spray them with Fabsil (the same stuff used for canvas/nylon tents), spray them all over, including tongue, zip, nylon panels and lacing area and let the liquid soak in and dry naturally. Boots can still be polished afterwards, if needed.
