Amazon's Nifty Shoe Sizer Feature

I'm giving these shoes 4 stars even though I returned them.

I have lymphedama on my left leg and, as a result, my left foot is wider then my right. My current shoes are New Balance M1540v2's in 8.5 4E (professionally fitted at a New Balance store). These shoes have good lateral support and are deep enough to accommodate my custom orthotics. The right shoe fits perfectly but the left is a little tight at the widest part of my foot. I've worn them for a couple of years and they're as broken-in as they're going to get. There's room for improvement so I'm always looking for shoes that fit my left foot better.

I was surfing Amazon's site looking at ASICS shoes and discovered their nifty "shoe sizer" that uses a data base of 3D and 2D scans of some brands of shoes to aid in the selection process. It let me input the model, size, and width of my NB shoes and indicate how they fit: good, a bit loose, or a bit tight. I said, "a bit tight." It recommended the size and width of the ASICS model that best matched my current shoes (apparently ASICS run small because it recommended 9's and 9.5's--my shoes are 8.5). A 3D "scan" suggested how that ASICS shoe would fit relative to mine using colors: red in the "tighter" areas, green in the "same-fit" areas, and blue in the "wider-fit" areas. A 2D representation showed an outline of the ASICS shoe superimposed on an outline of my current shoe. Very cool technology! However, you have to click on the ASICS shoe models, one-by-one, to see which one meets your requirement(s). It would be great if it could show them all at once.

The "shoe sizer" recommended the ASICS Men's Gel Excite 3 in 9.5 4E and said they would feel looser in the toes, wider than normal, and true at the heel. I purchased a pair.

My orthotics fit fine. The right shoe fit fine but the left shoe was narrower than my New Balance M1540v2.

I wore them around inside my house for two days hoping the fit would improve but it didn't.

Quality-wise, they're very good and the price was about a third of what I paid for the NB...for that I'm giving them 4 stars.

The first weekend (Friday through Sunday) that I wore them I put in a 15, a 14, and a 12 hour day for a combined 28 miles of walking on uneven asphalt, concrete, and gravel. My feet felt as well as could be expected with no swelling, blisters, or abnormal aching. I would recommend the ASICS Gel Excite 3 for anyone looking for a supportive shoe that will get them through long days. Great shoe for the value.

I like these shoes. They are lightweight, fit evenly, provide some cushion without being too soft. My feet are on the wide/flat side (I can't wear standard size Nikes without pain, for comparison), these are just a little snug width-wise but provide good support that way without being tight. Typically for me, an 11 is too small and 11.5 just a little loose, and these fit just right for me. Most of the mesh is open so they are very breathable shoes.

I buy these when they pop up at the big box stores and these were found on an Amazon lightning deal. Again the fit was exactly as I would have expected, they seem to be very consistent with their sizing, so will be buying these online from now on.

Great shoe for around the house tasks

I got these for my husband in 4E after he blew out the side of his other shoes.

He has a wide foot and these fit him perfectly. He has been wearing them around the house all day for the past few days without any complaints.

He has not tried to run in them yet. I am not sure how supportive they are for that situation.

I will update my review when he has had a chance to do a lot of standing and walking on them. So far, so good!

I bought these for my boyfriend when he goes to the gym, he said they are the most comfortable sneakers he owns. He did say they felt a little snug towards the toe, but he is used to wearing his shoes on the larger side that have a round toe. Now that he broke them in, he hasn't mentioned anything about them being uncomfortable since. He likes that they provide a bounce when running on the treadmill.

I read ASICS run small and convinced my wife to order 1/2 size larger 2 years and three pairs back. They all fit her (a 3 to 5 mile daily runner) and has been pleased with all. I went through the ASICS chart sizing and it recommended same size as I wore. WRONG! the community reviews were more accurate.
Shoes are shiny silver which can be matted with time or scotch-brite. I may get around to do this sometime in the future, I am enjoying them now.

I often need to purchase a wider shoe but these Asics fit me perfectly in standard width. They are very lightweight and there is room for my off the shelf orthotics. While they are very comfortable, they are not as firm/ supportive as the Asics Venture 5 series. If you need more firm support, consider the Venture series. Otherwise the Excite 3 is a great choice.

A running shoe review is not complete unless you properly state how much running is actually done on it and in fact, a description of the runner. Someone who does 10 miles on the shoe per day might give an entirely different review than one who use it for a walk around the park. That being said, I'm a 6', 150 lbs runner who does a weekly average of 60 miles (might even go up to 80 or even 100) on a mixed terrain. But the majority of the run is on hard asphalt and the rest on trails. I'm pretty hard on my shoes as I use my shoes on mud, rocky trail and everything in between. I always have two or three pairs of shoes in active duty as I might need a backup when one gets wet. Now coming to the review - the shoe felt great straight out of the box. I ordered by regular size of 10.5 which felt a little snug than my other brand (Saucony). But still felt comfortable enough for a 12 mile run straight out of the box. I got a regular feet, so the arch support was good enough for me without any discomfort. The shoes look nice too. Though style is not an issue, I like my shoes with a bit of color. The shoe is cushy enough for long distance running (As you might know, for long distance running it is much more advantageous to have better support than cushioning ). The shoe felt a bit more cushy than my regular brand. This has been my main running shoes for the past 3+ months and I've already put 500+ miles on them. Now come the cons. The shoe has definitely lost some of the cushioning on the heels. I can feel the rubber gone hard if I press it. Maybe it has got something to do with my rough handling on the shoes - leaving it out in the sun, rain et. al. Now, I usually put an insole in my shoes for more support and a little more cushioning when it is near the end. But since the shoe was already snug for me, an insole is almost impossible to fit in without feeling uncomfortable. The shoe still looks good though - no tear on the upper mesh or anything. Anyway, I think I would be lucky to get another 100 miles and then it is time to look for another pair.

After wearing around 3 months, I feel it is a pretty good pair of shoes for walking, but not perfect for running. I prefer the shoes have a little hard soles, however, these are too soft. And it is not breathable so that I feel pretty hot when wearing it in summer. Nevertheless, it worths its relatively low price. GOOD products.

I love ASICS; own about five pair. Having multiple leg, ankle and foot injuries, I need a neutral sneaker for the gym. These fit the bill for cross training and treadmill work. They have a lot of cushion and the footbeds are removable to fit orthotics. Only issue is these seem a half size larger than my many other pairs of ASICS and my foot seems to slide around unless the laces are firmly tied. Suggest ordering a half size down or wearing extra thick socks with the same size you usually wear in ASICS.

The shoes are shiny - almost like a 1970s disco, but offer excellent light reflection for dusk/night runners. Traction is another strong point so you can use these on a rainy day.

The four star rating is based on lack of size congruency compared with the rest of the ASICS running shoe line.
