Bring on the snow!

I definitely feel ready for the winter and shall not dread the prospect of snow quite so much with this fantastic jacket. I hadn't personally heard of Ultrasport but having tried several ski-jackets and heavy duty extreme weather type clothing I would say they were up there with the best.

The best thing about this jacket is that it is lightweight, non-restrictive and you don't have that uncomfortable 'can't move my arms' feeling. It is well designed with skiing, snow and extreme weather in mind. It has many pockets put in convenient places just where you need them - it even has ski features such as a ski skirt and an attached cloth for use with your goggles which is a thoughtful touch and invaluable.

Most options are removable so you can customise this to suit you. (The hood, fur, snow skirt etc) there's even a pocket designed for ipod use with a cable hole so you're spoilt with the real ease of use this brings.

Testing it out initially during the current cold snap and small amount of snow I can confirm this is a very warm jacket, stops wind getting in, the hood is very snug and comes right around your face, also keeping you warm in strong winds. The thumb holes on the sleeves are great for keeping your sleeves over your hands if you're not a fan of gloves and it's a generous size - we tried the XXL - which is very large but good to allow for a lot of layers underneath.

All in all a fantastically well made jacket, up there with the best, designed specifically with skiing in mind so i'll be looking forward to trying this out next time I go. Highly recommended even for just a winter jacket - very warm and multi-functional - great price too.

Good points:

+ Well made, with good quality components (the zips are YKK) that are easy to use with gloves on
+ Very warm and lightweight
+ Elasticated hand sleeves keep the cold air out
+ Subtle branding
+ Customisable (the fake fur lining and the hood can both be removed)
+ Variety of pockets (one has a rubberised headphone lead exit point, with a cable tidy further up inside the jacket lining, another has an integrated ski goggle cleaning cloth attached with a piece of elastic ribbon).
+ Efficiently water resistant
+ Internal elasticated snow skirt keeps the cold out if you want to use it.
+ Elasticated pullstrings around the hood opening and also inside going around where the back of the head would be, really help to get a nice warm tight fit for the head.

Bad points:

- The colour feels a bit bright for the dull English London winter. Much better surrounded by white snow.
- After a while, the stitching around the thumb holes in the hand sleeves pulled quite uncomfortably on my thumbs; it needs a bit of padding. I stopped using the thumbholes because of this.
- no reflective strips or patches
- the very high density of the weave means that stains are very stubborn

Overall, a good value jacket - a well thought out design, constructed with quality materials and components. It's very warm but not uncomfortably so. Great on the slopes.

Edit 19-03-15: I washed it at 40 degrees as recommended today and it came out very nicely. It dried very quickly, too. I suspect that the badge decorations will be the only part of the coat that eventually shows wear, although it did also cause the paint on the handles of the zips on the cuffs to chip off, too.

Edit 06-05-15: One of the hood strings has become detached from it's anchor ribbon on the coat, leaving it hanging loose. These stitches do look rather weak, albeit with hindsight.

Quality jacket

This is a very high quality jacket, but keeps you very hot as it is designed for Alpine conditions, i.e. is not for everyday use but for trips to mountains, or places where you are stay still outside, e.g. going to football matches. That'll explain the attached goggle wipe which is attached within. Also older people may prefer something hot too.

The colour of the jacket is predominantly black (also available in blue) with white stripes at the zip and the sides underarm. The white helps with nighttime use as it should help reflect car lights and keep you safer than an all black jacket would.

There are four pockets on the front, one chest pocket that can be closed using poppers, the others with zips which are easy to use even with cold fingers as they have a fabric extension joined to them making them easy to slide up or down. There is a sleeve zip pocket too. There is an inside pocket too which has a hole for wires so you can keep your iPod nice and dry in there whilst listening to it.

There is a detachable hood, with a very nice soft fur around it. The hood can be tightened by using the cord. The fur can also be removed easily as it is attached by poppers, which you may want to do when it rains. There is a cord around the base of the jacket so that that can be tightened too, and zips at the wrists so they can be tightened to your preference as well. Within the sleeves there is also a soft fabric fingerless thin glove to slip your hands into, or not if you prefer. Real gloves can then be slipped over these too.

The coat is thick and warm. For me that means that I can't use it for when I am walking to work because I would sweat too much, but I tend to sweat a lot anyway so for others it may be fine, and it is breathable after all. Only when it is really cold would I possibly wear it for that, but for watching football, say, it is fine, and the quality means it should last a long time.

Ich bin von dieser Jacke begeistert!

Die Jacke habe ich eine Nummer größer genommen da ich lieber einen lockeren Sitz mag und bei meiner normalen Größe (XL) die Ärmel meiner meinung nach etwas zu kurz waren.

Das Innenfutter der Jacke ist wirklich sehr warm und angenehm zu tragen. Ich war mit dieser Jacke schon bei -8°C längere Zeit im Freien und konnte keine Kälte spüren. Also die Jacke wärmt hervorragend.

Die Kapuze lässt sich sehr leicht abnehmen und auch wieder "montieren" wenn man das gerne möchte. Der Pelzkragen ist sensationell weich und hat ein sehr schönes Muster und eine tolle Farbgebung.
Ich habe die Jacke in schwarz/weiß genommen und finde das Design klassisch/zeitlos/elegant.

Da ich kein Skifahrer bin kann ich zur Pistentauglichkeit nichts sagen. Der Schneefang in der Jacke lässt sich leicht abnehmen.
Die Reisverschlüsse funktionieren alle sehr leichtgängig was von Qualität zeugt. Es gibt sehr viele Taschen was ja typisch für Skijacken ist (Skipasstasche am Ärmel etc.).

Vom Gewicht kann ich sagen das die Jacke wirklich sehr leicht ist und daher ein sehr angenehmes Tragegefühl entsteht.
Dadurch das die Jacke wind- und wasserdicht (Wassersäule 8000mm) ist eignet sie sich meiner Meinung nach auch super für den Freizeit bereich.

Einziges Manko ist meiner Meinung nach die etwas zu große Kapuze...setzt man diese ohne Haube auf hängt sie einem fast ins Gesicht und der Pelzkragen wird störend. Man bräuchte schon einen Riesenschädel damit die Kapuze auch ohne Haube passt.

Nichts desto trotz bin ich total begeistert von dieser Jacke denn bei einem Preis von ca. 100€ bekommt man nur sehr schwer etwas gleichwertiges. Ich würde dieses tolle Kleidungsstück jederzeit wieder kaufen.
