'Fantastic Trainers But Watch Your Sizes'

As a regular walker I often do 'laps' of a little track that I have found for myself near to my home. Each 'lap' is about 60-65 paces but I walk as fast as I can rather than just 'saunter' so my trainers do need to be durable to take the strain even though I am not running. The track is not strictly round either - more of a kind of 'figure of eight' so my weight shifts from one leg to the other each lap.

I grew up with the brand 'Slazenger' and so decided to try these when my old pair of trainers finally gave up the ghost. Reading other reviews here I was advised to go for a size larger than that I would normally order. This I did - ordering a size 11 when I am normally only a size 10. This proved crucial for as nice as these trainers are they are definitely on the small size. Even with a size 11 these are a 'snug' fit but then I often wear quite thick socks. If you feel, however, that you have a 'large foot' then maybe even going for two sizes up from your normal might be worthwhile? Other than that though I would stick to the 'one size up' rule.

These trainers are solid to the touch and are well made. They are initially quite stiff to the touch but do not rub your feet as the insides 'breathe' the more you walk in them and the lining inside is very comfortable.

They are also quite smart looks wise being a nice, bright white colour and so would not look out of place when 'worn for best' if matched with the right accessories. For the price I feel they are tremendous value and I am considering buying a second pair when I can afford it to make sure I have a reserve or 'best' pair while these are available.

I haven't worn these that many times at the time of writing this review so time will tell whether any 'unforseen so far' negatives come to light about these but so far I am pretty confident that I have picked up a real bargain and that you should too!

Smaller than stated size

I bought 1¼ sizes bigger than I need and they are a little tight, and that's with freshly cut toe nails. With hindsight, I would have bought even bigger. With the cost of carriage, it isn't worth sending them back - I am hoping they will wear slightly looser.

These trainers are excellent but unfortunately they were too small for my husband so I returned them for a refund... which was sorted out without any problems at all. I would definitely recommend them but I do think they are small for the size they are supposed to be.... He normally takes a size 9 but these were quite tight....! As I say they are very nice trainers as I have some myself....

I bought this item as a backup to an identical pair bought more than 5 years ago and still going strong. I suffer from arthritis and found walking so much more comfortable with these shoes. Deliberately chosen to be the nearest trainer to classical shoes. I bought my first pair in store and found my normal size too tight but one size up was fine. This time, having put on a bit of weight, I went for a size and a half above my normal size … perfect.

Magical trainers and great for the price (mine in all BLACK). Perfect fit (I had no need to up the size) and they're nice and light. I've had them a month or so now and ZERO issues. Note that they are almost FLAT rather than there being a raised heel (though they still have a good instep). Those people used to having a significantly raised heel will notice the difference. Personally, I love them.

I wanted some simple straightforward trainers for general wear , didn't want to pay the earth either so went for these , mainly because of the name and the price , I could have had trainers off a brand I've never heard of for about the same or less , glad I went for Slazenger they fit perfectly and are comfortable to wear , I'm very pleased with my purchase .

Cost of returns

Didn't notice£4-99 charge for postage when ordering, too small but seller"recommend" royal mail recorded delivery for returns, so would cost almost as much as the trainers cost to send them back, but don't expect anything else from sport's direct.

This is my third pair of these in five years. Why so few? They are really tough, and never wear out. The linings go eventually, and the leather will eventually crack in places, but all three pairs are still wearable. I walk 4-6 miles every day, and wear nothing else. Sad that Slazenger is a bit "unfashionable".
