How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

This movie put me on the edge of my seat. It is a found footage movie following people that have just survived this 'attack' (I won't say who or what is attacking otherwise it might spoil the film) and the found footage part makes it look really realistic. If you can get through the first 20 minutes of talking and getting to know the characters then that is really when the action starts and it doesn't really stop from there. The scene 20 minutes in is amazing! The movie has mixed emotions- it can be sad, happy or action packed and there are a few shocking moments as well. Being a found footage film it does mean it is on a recording camera so if you are not a fan of the camera constantly shaking maybe it isn't for you but otherwise it's excellent. It is certainly worth it for the price. Be sure to check out the sequel 10 Cloverfield Lane [DVD] [2016] which is a change of genre but also looks good.

10 Cloverfield Lane was well recommended so I thought I’d get the prequel as well.
I found it almost unwatchable. Too much hysteria and shouting and too much jerky camera with a party lead in of very little relevance yet given loads of run time.
An experience but one I don’t want to repeat.

HALL OF FAME
4.0 out of 5 stars A monster movie seen through the eyes of the people who scream and get stomped on
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 May 2012

Having scrupulously avoided Cloverfield for its veritable shopping list of things I hate about many modern movies - not least the obsession with shooting on shakeycam digital where you can't tell what's going on - I was surprised to discover it's actually a surprisingly effective update on the classic kaiju movie that really works as an audience picture. Its real innovation isn't that it's masquerading as a home video record of an unknown giant monster's devastating attack on New York: the `found footage' genre was old long before The Blair Witch Project came along. Rather, it's that instead of going for the big picture like the classic Godzilla movies, this concentrates on the people previous monster movies simply used as background, the ordinary people running for their lives who are usually just there to scream and get stomped on. There's plenty of that along the way, and surprisingly effectively handled, but there's also a real sense of chaos and confusion. Nobody knows what's going on, the creature only briefly glimpsed until the end, its origins unexplained and ultimately unimportant as simply surviving takes precedence for the ever-thinning group of partygoers caught up in the surprisingly spectacular devastation. Characterisation is minimal, as you might expect with its faux reality approach, but what it does have is a genuine sense of immediacy and a palpable sense of fear and desperation as the everyday suddenly gets mightily torn apart. It's surprisingly short, but incredibly effective - perhaps more so on the small screen than the big one - and transcends what could have simply been a marketing gimmick to become a genuinely iconic monster movie for the 21st century.

The extras package on the two-disc DVD is a lot slimmer and more perfunctory than it apprears at first sight (it doesn't even include the infamous trailer that sparked the film's 'mystery' marketing campaign), so there's little reason to opt for it over the single disc unless the price is favourable. The extras have all been carried over to the Blu-ray release.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Entertaining Found Footage Disaster Monster Movie!

A found footage disaster, monster movie from the POV of the person on the street, who have no clue whats going on or what to do. Just trying to find safety & loved ones. An excellent film with a great ending which is very much in keeping with the films feel. Making the found footage element of the film even more believable and enjoyable. Plus Hud’s comments throughout the film are funny really making it a 5 star film for me.

Presented as a found footage, first person, account of what it would be like to be at ground zero during a giant monster attack, Cloverfield is an immersive and dramatic experience, only marred by the need for a good 30 minutes of pre-waffle while you wait for the big beastie to turn up, however once it does this film really kicks it up a notch. Watched as part of a three film home movie festival with Godzilla (2015) and Pacific Rim. What a blast.

The film succeeds in suggesting the scale of the attack, rather than risking bathos by a direct view of the 'monster.' It hits all the panic buttons of all US people, although the reality of 9.11 eclipses it. There was too much female screaming, and screaming has diminishing returns. Not much of a story: monster hits New York, and everybody dies

My 2 year old some how rented this Within 5 min of getting without the tv on when I picked up fire stick remote and pressed loads of random buttons.
So as he rented it I watched it. Only thing I can say that it was a waste of my time and money. Not seen anything this bad in a while

This movie is underrated as frick. What is it with visionary cinema and ordinary popcorn people these days? They seem to be dueling, leading to all sorts of Hollywood TRANSFORMations . . . !?! Now please go and give 10 Cloverfield Lane two or three stars... Then, you have Bay's permission to watch the fifth installment in the POPULAR FRANCHISE!

Honestly now, I live in Greece and people gave Transformers: Darkside Sailor Moon a standing ovation at the theatre. Grown-ups. Now, even try to imagine this!

Excellent, sturdy blu-ray case delivered on time, by the way. With a more than satisfying HD release of the film!
