How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 stars"Something has found us"

This movie put me on the edge of my seat. It is a found footage movie following people that have just survived this 'attack' (I won't say who or what is attacking otherwise it might spoil the film) and the found footage part makes it look really realistic. If you can get through the first 20 minutes of talking and getting to know the characters then that is really when the action starts and it doesn't really stop from there. The scene 20 minutes in is amazing! The movie has mixed emotions- it can be sad, happy or action packed and there are a few shocking moments as well. Being a found footage film it does mean it is on a recording camera so if you are not a fan of the camera constantly shaking maybe it isn't for you but otherwise it's excellent. It is certainly worth it for the price. Be sure to check out the sequel 10 Cloverfield Lane [DVD] [2016] which is a change of genre but also looks good.

2.0 out of 5 starsHard to watch.

10 Cloverfield Lane was well recommended so I thought I’d get the prequel as well.
I found it almost unwatchable. Too much hysteria and shouting and too much jerky camera with a party lead in of very little relevance yet given loads of run time.
An experience but one I don’t want to repeat.

I love monster type movies with a strange creature attacking a city but this is not one of them!
Apart from the stupid handheld camera angle which leaves you so frustrated because just as you want to get a look at something it moves again, you hardly get to see the monster/creature, which surely for one of these movies is the whole point! You only get the odd flicker and surprise surprise the camera moves again! The end where the creature attacks the camera guy you kind of think thank god for that it will shut him up!
We are left to presume that the military kill the creature as they perform 'hammer down' to flatten Manhatten and the creature and baby type things too, although it leaves you wondering as this is not confirmed (possibly leaving it open for a Cloverfield 2) as the fire power they had attacked it with before appeared to have no ill effect on the creature.
Personally if you love monster type movies I would not bother as you don't really get to see the 'monster'!

2.0 out of 5 stars Cloverfield, some impressive bits, largely pointless.

Dissappointing film overall, not what I was expecting and alot of the more interesting possibilities for this plot were left unexplored... probably as a matter of budget. Maybe it's just me but I do find point of view kind of films with wobbly cameras to be somewhat annoying and I find myself asking the question that if it's so dangerous and the situation is so stressful why do the charcters insist on lumbering around with an extra 10kg of video recording equipment, in addition I want to know who supplies the batteries for these things because they've quite clearly find the secret of etherial generation. Story line has been done and done only much better. on the positive side there were no big name stars... just lots of people who want to be.

2.0 out of 5 stars Manhattan Monster Mayhem
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 September 2008

"Cloverfield" is a somewhat annoying "horror" film featuring an anonymous group of Manhattan twenty somethings, one of whom,in the midst of terrifying, cataclysmic events decides to run around New York alongside his frightened friends with a camcorder glued to his face, recording their terror, panic and deaths."Cloverfield" is filmed in the shaky hand-cam manner of "The Blair Witch Project", a technique which renders the movie more irritating and headache inducing than stylish and cool. The acting in "Cloverfield" is poor ,the storyline is unoriginal and the film fails to grip the viewer in any meaningful way. Oh,and it only lasts about 70 minutes which in my opinion is still too long.

Cloverfield has some positive aspects, the found-footage camerawork and the exclusion of a film score brings intensity, the opening action scene is thrilling, but as soon as those extra creatures are introduced is when this film becomes useless, i actually stopped watching as soon as those creatures hit the screen.

The film just makes you bored, whilst making you feel sick through the way it was filmed.

2.0 out of 5 stars Visual harrassment
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 January 2009

Should come with a notice: 'Filmed with use of shakily held mobile-phone camera.' The effect on the viewer's vision is unsettling right from the first frame. The production was a waste of good actors' talents. The script is indecipherable and as incoherent as the all too familiar plot. Indeed the 'story-line' and 'script' were as shaky and annoying as the hand holding the camera. These along with the good quality actors were unfortunately sacrificed by producers bent on achieving real-time, mobile-phone camera realism. Unless you enjoy having your visual and cerebral senses harrassed and distorted, and your capacity to follow a plot line assaulted, I cannot commend this film.

RUBBISH.
Just full on rubbish, there is no storyline and no explanation for any of the rubbish thats going on, no beginning, no middle and no end and the constant cuts to the other side of the tape gave no backstory and added nothing. I can only hope 10 Cloverfield lane is better as I haven't seen it yet but I'll definitely give that one a chance.
But Cloverfield is an awful film.
