One of my favourite films of all time. Absolutely hilarious. A lot of the jokes are very dependent on a knowledge of what it is that is actually being mocked, so might well best be suited to individuals of a certain age. Definitely a top ten film though.

I forgot it's not suitable for kids... lots of swearing and sex/drug references... I must be old, I just remember it being funny...

I do not know what all the fuss is about. Scary Movie is possibly the most unfunny spoof created, played for capital gain instead of artistic integrity. A child could have written a funnier script. The Wayan Brothers are painfully unamusing; jokes about how stoned you get aren't funny in real life let alone in a comedy. The entire film annoyed me which is not the supposed result when watching a spoof. This could have been great. The trouble, apart from the awful script, was the material it chose to show up. Scream was a spoof. Not in the same vein as Naked Gun, say, but it was already pointing out flaws and innacuracies within the horror genre. What is the point of spoofing a spoof. You cannot take the rise out of Scream for being a horror film. At least Scream turned out to be intelligent, not to mention funny and scary as well which is the mark of all great spoofs and send ups - they all emulate and show respect for what they try to make fun of. That is why films such as Starship Troopers, Galaxy Quest and The Naked Gun are all excellent productions. It is because there is a genuine respect for the genre they resemble. And nobody who likes science-fiction, for instance, dislikes Starship Troopers or Galaxy Quest purely because they play as well as many of the 'serious' films within the genre. You cannot just put on a hockey mask and light a spliff expecting your audience to laugh. You have to give them something to laugh about.
Another criticism is that the films they did not take from are the ones that would have made the better jokes. Friday the 13th was never mentioned. Now there's a series of films ripe for the micky taking. Hellraiser, Alien, Omen, and a plethora of others that have become cliched parodies of themselves were not used which is a great shame. Instead they used The Usual Suspects. Is that a horror film? I agree, the scene was actually funny but, surely would have fit better in a spoof of crime films, a la Naked Gun. And The Matrix?
Main problem with Scary Movie? Does not know what it wants to be. It definitely is not scary and I barely chuckled throughout the entire hour and a half - one of the longest in my life. What it is is an example of how society has become dumbed-down reflected in the pop culture of today. Scary Movie is rude, vulgar and barely a montage of scenes that do not relate in any way to a whole. In another director's hands that may have made for an interesting film. What we have is a shoddy waste of film with no respect for its audience or its subject matter. Truly awful.
It does get one star for Shannon Elizabeth, though. Fantastic body.

Disgraceful

This film is truly terrible. Unlike above reactions, this film is not what I would call funny. Not at all even. The most describing word would be.. annoying. Besides that fact that it overall fails to amuse, it disrespects real movies like Scream and The Blairwitch project, who actually have a right to existence. This film is awful, please not encourage Hollywood to create more like it by buying it. If you're looking for comedy, I recommend The Holy Grail or Life of Brian.

Cependant, malgré le support blu-ray, la qualité vidéo est la même qu'un DVD. Petit plus pour le son en 5.1 !

Par contre, gros bémol : la version française n'est absolument pas celle à laquelle je m'attendais.
Je m'attendais aux mêmes dialogues que ce que j'avais entendu au cinéma et à la version DVD que j'avais déjà.
Dan ce blu-ray, les traductions sont plus ou moins correctes, mais beaucoup moins drôles que celles d'origine.
Je suis très déçu et ne recommande pas cet achat aux personnes qui, comme moi, ont connu la version originale...

Alors j'adore ce film mais j'ai mis cette note contre le format bluray. L'image est horrible. Aucune restauration n'a été faite. Autant regarder le film en dvd. De plus sur le bluray il n'y a pas de version française, c'est du canadien. Je suis outré que l'on puisse autant bâclé l'édition d'un film. C'est une honte !!!
