This Ultrasport Men's Hooded Quilted Evan Jacket is realistically sized, the medium size is a generous fit on me (I’m a 40” chest). The material is a 100% nylon outer with 90% duck down filling and 10% feathers making the garment very light and compact to store but warm. This product is handwash only according to the label inside the right-hand pocket. The materials, stitching and zips appear of good quality.

The USP of this particular style is that it's reversible - you can wear it with a quilted black outer which I'd regard as the “default” and the other way around with a grey, non-quilted outer. When worn with the grey on the outside despite the logo on the chest it looks a bit obvious that the outer is, in effect, the lining and, although there are slash pockets they are don't have zippered closures like the quilted side.

When worn in “normal mode” with the quilting on the outside the jacket looks stylish and is very warn with an integral hood. There are some nice details too; there’s a discreet logo on the shoulder (plus a chest logo on the grey side); a zipped breast pocket and zipped side pockets; plus; a drawstring inside the front pockets to give extra shape and keep draughts out. I also like the fact that the zips feature substantial pulls so that if your hands are cold you can still operate them. Curiously, though, the hood has an elasticated edge but no drawstring which can mean in high winds it gets blown off your head. I’d say this is a water-resistant garment but not fully waterproof against a torrential downpour.

In summary, this jacket is very warm, looks really nicely cut/styled and represents good value, although, I feel the reversible feature is a bit of a gimmick.

Superb lightweight & low volume yet warm jacket with two great features

I absolutely love this jacket. It’s so much better than the similar Mountain Warehouse one which I also own.

Two features of this are superb. First, the hood is elasticated which means it stays on my head in a breeze. My Mountain Warehouse one isn’t elasticated and the slightest breeze (and I mean slightest) blows the hood off my head. The latter becomes a pain very quickly - you walk around with one hand on the hood to keep it in place.

Second, there’s elastic around the waist, which you can tighten via drawstrings which emerge inside (yes, inside) each waist/hand pocket, with a toggle on them. Again, my Mountain Warehouse jacket doesn’t have this feature.

It also has an external breast pocket with a zip on it. My Mountain Warehouse jacket has no such pocket.

The hand pockets are zipped. On my Mountain Warehouse one, they are zipless.

These little differences are great.

It’s a low volume, lightweight jacket yet I’ve worn it throughout this winter. It’s so low volume that I can stuff it inside a small backpack. I love it. It’s a definite 5 stars from me.

A Decent Windbreak

This is one of the only so-called reversible jackets I've seen with a reverse side that looks as good as the main side. Usually the 'reversible' claim is a gimmick, with one side looking a bit silly. Not so with this Ultrasport jacket. The main side (black) showcases the down lining in horizontal bands. This side also features a logo patch on the right upper arm. It blends in with the jacket - a subtle touch. The reverse side is listed as grey but is actually more of a polished gunmetal colour - more eye-catching than the black side. The gunmetal side is flatter, with the ribbed horizontal bands still visible but not jutting out as they do (Michelin Man style) on the black side. The material is soft to the touch - luxuriously soft, which adds to the cosiness and comfort of the jacket. The down/feather padding is fairly sparse, so this is a jacket for fashion and aesthetics, not for harsh winter weather. It's a decent windbreak but not substantial enough for sub-zero temperatures. Also, it wouldn't keep you dry in wet weather. The nylon outer layers may fend off the lightest of showers but they wouldn't keep out persistent rain. This jacket is very much aesthetic wear rather than a heavy-duty garment that would stand up to outdoor adventures such as hill climbs or mountain-bike rides. That sort of punishment would soon have this jacket in shreds. If you like the look of this jacket and plan to wear it purely for aesthetic purposes, it's ideal. But if you're expecting it to hold up to outdoor adventures, think again. It's altogether too delicate for that. It needs to be treated with care (this also applies to washing - it's hand-wash only). The style looks classic, particularly the gunmetal side.

I got the medium size as a gift for a 12-year-old nephew who's a bit of a wild child. He loves the jacket and has been instructed to treat it as the delicate item it is. I hope he does, as it'd be a shame for such a pretty piece of clothing to end up damaged.
