Great costume for a child

After reading conflicting previous reviews I was worried if this would fit my nephew. He's just turned 5 and is average height for his age. It was perfect for him (I bought the small). There was some growth room in it, so I'd definitely say it'd fit a child of up to 7. It comes with a detachable 'shell', so if you're giving this as a present, have some newspaper for some kind of filling ready to stuff in the shell if they decide to put it on immediately, so not to make them disappointed. My nephew did ask me where the 'stick' was, so you may want to consider purchasing one of those too (if you don't want to disappoint) :-).

It is incredibly huge. Bought the small for ages 3-4 years for our 3 and a half year old. I had to hem the heck of this taking up a total of 8-10 inches on the legs and another 3 inches at each shoulder and 3 inches on the sleeves. The foot covers are likewise exhaustively wide. For one night of trick or treating, this does the job. The mask likewise is too big and my child couldn't see with it on and found the hard plastic too uncomfortable as it dug in to her chest as well, so she just didn't wear it. The shell is the best part of this costume. However, when you have to take in 6 inches across the shoulders it doesn't attach as well and just drags down the whole costume.
