Excellent mules.

I have had a pair of Joseph Seibel mules before. These are excellent, comfortable and a good fit. The listing however is confusing, although stated as an English 8 they are in fact a European size 42, which is what I wanted (basically an 8 1/2) . Why not just list the size accurately as it appears on the sole?

Not as they used to be?

I've been buying the same JS Mules for years. Suddenly I found the shape had changed. Size 8 (UK) are now so wide they slip off. Dangerous to walk down stairs. I complained about the change, the reply was that the template for the shoe has not changed. So I dug out two of my old ones to compare, and guess what? The new version was a completely different shape, much wider. Reading other complaints I fail to see why they have altered a well made shoe?

Let down by the soles.

I have had 2 pairs of these mules and unfortunately they have both developed the same fault/issue.
They do look very nice and the leather uppers are great quality and are well put together but it's a shame they are let down by the rubber soles.

With both pairs, the rubber has split across the sole where the ball of the foot is and it bends. I first noticed this after about 6 months when some water leaked in while walking on damp ground. Admittedly at this stage it was only small but the split widened with use. This is a shame as for the price of them i would not expect this (I have much cheaper shoes, worn outdoors a lot more that haven't had any issues with sole other than general wear but no splitting). The sole of the mule is the weak part that lets it down, as i have to say the upper part still looks great and would last a lot longer.

I do notice that the design of the tread won't help. It has grooves that run the length and others running across. On both pairs it split within the groove running across at the ball of the foot. Obviously this is the thin, weak point.

So in summary: Great looking, well made leather uppers but let down by poor soles. Not ideal if you want to wear them much outdoors but they do look nice and great for the house where it's dry.

These were for my husband. While up to the usual Seibel standards of durability and a good fit he found them uncomfortable to wear because of hard pointy bits of leather near the elastic - he had to take a Stanley knife to them since they were cutting into tender skin.

I am hard on my slippers - I wear them out! These clogs are comfortable, fit well and are hard wearing. In fact I never buy anything else now.

If you go outside a lot in these then the soles wear out before the leather uppers.

Have always worn these just for indoor use as Diabetic and need to care for my feet and these have always ticked every box for comfort, fit, don't get too hot etc. I wore my previous pair for years and were great, so when they eventually gave up on me, with the sole splitting, i didn't hesitate buying a new pair, however the new ones are not of the same quality and the insole part quickly flattened to nothing at the heel whereas previously they have always retained their padding / bounce. Maybe a change in manufacturing or materials but I will look elsewhere from now on which is a shame as was always pleased with Josef Seibel mules.
