Jagged Edge - 2021 Powerhouse Blu-ray
Verified purchase
Great old 1980’s classic thriller given a shiny lease of life in this Blu-ray edition.

On a stormy night, a socialite is brutally murdered in her beach house. Her husband is accused of her murder but protests his innocence. When his lawyer takes his case, she finds herself not only defending him in court, but falling for him romantically even as his guilt or innocence remains unanswered…..

Great cast led by Glenn Close and Jeff Bridges, supported by some fondly remembered 80’s familiar faces like Robert Loggia and Peter Coyote. The script by Joe Eszterhas is much more about the courtroom drama than his later similarly themed San Francisco thrillers ‘Basic Instinct’ and ‘Jade’ were and that’s where it’s strengths lie. Still, it’s always good to see an 80’s character thriller get a new release as this is a very 80’s kind of film which doesn’t really get made anymore.

Powerhouse usually puts a good package of extras together, and you get lots of archival and new material here. Interviews, galleries, an essay booklet, etc

A good package.

A good movie

This is a very enjoyable movie, typical Court room drama of the eighties. But once you go beyond the bad hair, the ever-present synthesizers in the soundtrack and the funny colours of the jackets you get a sound movie with a terrific plot, the usual twists in the argument. And, in this case, a couple of stars in the making - the then very fresh-faced Jeff Bridges and Glenn Close, always very good. As a bonus, two of the best secondaries of the recent decades: James Loggia (nominated for the Oscar here, but lost to Don Ameche in Cocoon) and Peter Coyote.
An unpretentious movie which will deliver what it promises: simple entertainment.

Did he or didn't he?

From 1985 this a a did he didn't he murder case with Jeff Bridges and Glen Close. Not too graphic but the story is quite cat and mouse between Bridges, suspected murderer, and his reluctant defence lawyer Close. Not a short film, at 1 hour and 48 minutes, but the tale is well handled with lots of chemistry between the leads. Nice to see Peter Coyote and Robert Loggia involved too.

Gripping

This combines two favourite themes-muder investigation and courtroom drama. From the outset the question is did the arrested man do it ? As the plot twists and turns it is an "edge of your seat" situation.
Outstanding performances from Jeff Bridges (as the accused) and Glenn Close (as the defending lawyer) well backed by Tom Cayote (as the DA)

Kept me guessing until the end

I had seen it before but forgot the plot. Just as brilliant as before with great acting from the wonderful Jeff Bridges and Glen Close. Good fun and slightly scary

Region one only and not blu-ray.

Just one point about this DVD being region one and not a Blu-ray Disc. The only device we could play it on was a portable DVD player, our regular blu-ray player could not play it.

A teaser.

Although this film looks a little dated now the premise is still good. The viewer is kept guessing until the end as to whether the husband is guilty of his wife's murder or not!
