I need gaiters that can withstand a lot of punishment, and these appeared to be exceptional gaiters on the first and second use . Whilst the snap buttons popped open a few times whilst walking through vegetation, they generally held up well. However, after a further few trips out all the thread and stitching from the Velcro strap came away, and the lace hooks at the bottom both became detached from the gaiter. I imagine these would be absolutely fine for light use (but then I would question why you would need gaiter made from thick material like the Buckthorn in such conditions), but they don't stand up to what is admittedly quite strong punishment. However, my previous Berghaus GTX II underwent 5 years of this heavy punishment before breaking - I have now gone back to these and a new pair is in the post!
