5.0 out of 5 stars An absolutely brilliant Mesh network - Finally I have a replacement for Apple Airport Extremes!
By Andy P on 26 November 2019
I rarely write full reviews but I took a considerable amount of time and research in choosing a replacement to my exisiting Apple Airport Extremes setup and wanted to make the process a bit easier for those in a similar position looking for a new network mesh.

FYI - I had a very nice setup that's been running 5+ years really well made up of 1 Apple Airport Extreme and 4x Airport Expresses in what was Apples essential meshing network so there are single network bands. As Apple are not continuing with routers and are out the game so to speak I was looking to replace them with something that's current and much more cutting edge and up to date and innovative. Also it's worth mentioning I've invested heavily into Amazon Echo which are absolute leaders in the AI / smart home ecosystems (I have 6x through out the house controlling loads of smart home tech like Hue lights indoors/outdoor, plugs, Hive etc.)

So, when Amazon purchased Eero (US based mesh networking late year) I figured something good was coming - also depite the UK reviews currenly since release last month only has under 10 reviews/ratings, if you look at the US Amazon website you will get a better picture of how loved and highly recommended Eero is!

Anyway, a month back the UK Amazon released versions and I bought 4x of the Eero Pro's to cover the house whilst they are discounted with Prime week - They work absolutely brilliantly and the download / upload speeds are signifianctly faster for me on mobile devices. My iPhone XS for example would on the Airports usually only get 150-200 megs on download even when within feet of the express units, now with the Eero's it's virtually doubled so I can get the for ~350mb download I have with Virgin (and SpeedTest matches the LAN connected devices at closest range to units, of course this drop the further away you go but there are virtually no dead spots in our house now and I can go to the end of our garden and still be receiving ~50mb download which is awesome!

My only complaint (which I am sure will change with Amazon / Eero development and extension to the Eero system), and for most standard house holds this won't affect them was the setting up of reservations / IPs to devices. This has to happen on the App on your phone (no browser access page to any of the Eero settings / system until what most will be familiar with any usual router). To confirm, most users who just want plug and play wouldn't have any problems here as it was literally up and running with the internet in 15 minutes - This is for the geeks who use port forwarding on devices etc. from out of their house / office and require locking IP addresses to a device Mac address so it doesn't change by another device taking the IP if it happen to be offline - This process for me what a real pain and took a few hours as I've got loads of devices and it is something that would have been 20x times faster to do with a browser, I had to go through and as I wanted to friendly name and identify all devices (close to 80 Mac addresses / devices).

The App at the moment also needs some more functionality put into it like searching facility on the main screen to quickly isolate a device and also this would be good on the device IP / DHCP reservation screen (or throughout the App like a quick search drop down).

I can highly recommend Eero, only a few days in and it's awesome - Amazon will I hope / am sure continue to expand and integrate it further to the Alexa system so you could use it for verbally checking internet speed, blocking children devices / profiles on demand, rebooting etc.

I've taken a bunch of screenshots to give anyone really considering the Eero a good feel of the App and interface, it's really nice and slick, clean etc.

2.0 out of 5 stars Needed way more than I thought I would need
By Thomas Weaver on 3 November 2019
I’ve been waiting for eero to reach the U.K. for years, so when moving to a new house I decided to install them from the get go.

I have 3.3k sq ft. The eero pro kit sells 3 to cover 5K sq ft. I bought an initial three pack and installed the first one by the router. I had a lot of problems putting any distance between the initial one and the 2nd/3rd. They all ended up close together around the hall/landing in order to be able to connect at all. This left me with no coverage in key rooms. I then bought another three as a last resort. This extended it but my coverage still isn’t perfect.

Worse, I could stand 10ft from a eero Pro and my phone could lose coverage.

I’m in a detached house, no other electronics installed yet, no busy radio fields, nothing.

Only reason this doesn’t get 1 star is it is indeed super easy to set up compared to transitional routers.

Wish I’d waited a few more days for Nest WiFi and still not 100% convinced I might not send eero back and make the switch.
