So, today while we have 45+ mph winds in the UK, I wore this coat out. The material on this coat is so finely woven it allows no air to get through whatsoever, so what happens as you walk around your skin can't breathe and you sweat more and more and more. When you get home you are drenched with sweat under your clothes.
I then hung up the jacket and the coat together on one hanger just to discover five hours later that the material of the coat allows absolutely no air to circulate through it at all, so my jacket was still wet from my perspiration, from when I got home at 1.30 pm. I discovered this at 7.30pm!
This coat is possibly suitable for people who just walk a few yards from their house to their car, or from their car to public transport. However because there is no way your skin can breathe when your wearing it if you got for a long walk in it you will sweat like a pig then have to turn the coat inside out so it can dry out afterwards. Even my arms were sweating when I took it off when I got home.
My main concern is that whilst the coat is cheap, the quality isn’t fantastic. This is a case of you get what you pay for.
Whilst there is some excellent padding to keep you warm, the coat doesn’t “breathe”. Therefore on days where it is very cold outside, it is keeps you really warm. Although, once you step inside you get too warm. There is nowhere for sweat to evaporate so it can get very wet inside the coat. The material inside also means it doesn’t dry unless on a heat source.
Also, the stitching is shocking in places. I’ve had to sew the buttons back on several times now. Obviously, anytime after the first clearly exhibits my abysmal sewing skills. However, you shouldn’t have to do it in the first place after only wearing it a couple of times!
Finally, the lining of one of the pockets ripped very quickly as the material is so thin.
Overall, I would recommend this coat for wearing every now and again. However, it will not survive more regular wear! Admittedly it is cheap. However, I have bought excellent coats for the same price that have last me years. This coat will barely last 6 months!
