I have just the opposite (high arches), but I can tell you that they are the most comfortable and instantly wearable hiking boots I have ever had. No rubbing, no pain, no sore arches, just instant comfort for miles and miles. I don't know what difficulties flat feet might present you with, however I can say that these are supportive, extremely comfortable, and for me, required no breaking in whatsoever. Yes, however after a very short period of time the one boot is no longer water proof, even walking for a short period of time on long wet grass.
