They are very comfortable and excellent value, but I have not yet tested them in very wet conditions. They should get you through the coast to coast without a problem. If you can afford a bit more, I would really recommend my main boots which are Scarpa Terra. You can pick these up for £100 to £120 if you shop around and they are in a different league to the Merrells. They are Italian calf skin leather and the most comfortable boots I have owned (on my third pair now). They would be a better choice than the Merrells over rough terrain and are definitely more robust and supportive see less

No problems with the hooks or laces. The rubber toe cap did split though.

Answer:
Yes, the Merrel Moab 2 has good heat insulation for winter wearing.
Obviously I advise you wear proper dry thick socks to ensure the heat stays in.

Answer:
These shoes have a Gore-Tex waterproof upper however, if you spill the water on the upper part of the shoe it may seep inside the shoe by the lining.

Nonetheless, the Moab is a very comfortable walking boot and gives good ankle support, great if you like a narrow fitting boot. If you prefer a wider fit I can recommend Keen. Both are fine for 20-30 mile a day walk.
