The advantage of this type of belt is that there are no buckle-holes, you can fasten it anywhere along its length. Therefore I would recommend going for the 45in belt and give yourself some spare.

I'm similar and this had room to spare. You just push the metal spoke through the braid wherever you need.

Well I used the size guide provided and it worked for me so for 36" waist it's the 49-57 I should think!

I think you should go for the 41"-53" there is a bit of stretch in it.
