4.0 out of 5 stars Almost Perfect
By Steve Griffiths on 11 November 2020
I purchased this controller on release day - the fact that Microsoft is allowing their peripherals to work across multiple platforms is fantastic. It works just as you’d expect an Xbox controller to, with some improvements over the previous generation of controllers such as the textured grips and triggers (which I wasn’t sold on initially, but they feel great and provide extra grip when your palms get sweaty) as well as the rounded D-Pad which should make rolling your thumb around it slightly easier.

However, it’s not perfect - for some reason Microsoft have changed the clip at the top of the battery compartment, meaning that any rechargeable battery packs you may have from the previous generation (for example the Venom rechargeable battery packs) simply will not fit in this controller. The controller does come with 2 AA batteries so I can use it until I’ve ordered replacement battery packs, however it is hugely disappointing that Microsoft have made this small change to force consumers to fork out extra money on battery packs that fit the new controller.

This is a 5* product, unfortunately it loses a star due to the aforementioned battery compartment change.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good controller, good grip.
By Christopher Burns on 10 November 2020
This controller is basically another slight iteration on the Xbox One controller made for the new generation of Xbox consoles. The main differences are a new 'record/share' button in the middle, texturing on the front of the triggers and on the lower section of the bumpers. It also has a USB-C port rather than micro, so it can be used with the same cable you charge most current smartphones with if you want a wired connection.

The texturing this controller has may not be to everyone's liking, as it is somewhat rough compared to older models, but it does offer a good grip.

In using this controller with bluetooth on a PC, I found that it was dropping connection after about 5 minutes and reconnecting. I was able to solve this issue by downloading the Xbox Accessories application from the Microsoft Store and installing a firmware update onto the controller. If it is not being recognised as an Xbox Controller over bluetooth, make sure you have the latest Windows update installed, as that seemed to solve that problem for me.

On the PC, the share button doesn't seem to do anything, although it's likely that it requires you to have the Xbox Game Bar enabled to function.

I can't say much about the lifetime of this, but it feels fairly solid and about the same as the other Xbox One controllers. However, the Y button seems a bit faulty as it is not always registered when pressed, in my case when it is being pushed lightly to the right, meaning the button may not always work when you expect it to in games. It seems that pressing harder on the button does get it to register, but that can be a bit annoying when using the button to change gear in a racing game, for example. This issue was present from the start of me getting this controller, and has not became worse over the time so far.

I've added an image of this controller alongside the first generation of Xbox One controllers so you can see the visual difference.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great xbox controller
By BryanE on 25 November 2020
I got this controller for the new box one series x as an extra controller and to be frank i love the colours

I love the new Xbox controllers. The surface on the rear of the pad is textured which allows for better handling, the massively improved d-pad very similar to that on the elite which allows for better movement on the D- Pad as your thumb fits into the small dip better. The controller is well made and feels quality

The addition of the share button is gratefully received as its now even more simple to share your favourite screen shots or videos with your friends

Connection is simple with the new Bluetooth and connecting to my gaming pc without any issues, i did not have ny issues with latency or even drop out from the Bluetooth connection. I’m also very impressed that it can connect to my sons original Xbox One and my daughters Xbox One S

The controller is now usb C charger and it does not come with a cable in the box (surprised a little for cost)

Over all I’m very impressed with he controller and recommend it
