Season finale. For twenty years, Moiraine has dreamed and worked towards this moment. But she can't stop the Dragon Reborn from seeing the appeal of the Dark.

Who is the Dragon Reborn?

Moiraine

Moiraine says she has come to the Two Rivers in search of the one who will save or destroy the world — but ask of her intentions and you’ll be met with cold stares and heavy silence. Aes Sedai may never speak that which is not true, making her silence all the more concerning. Will she protect the Dragon Reborn, whomever they may be, or are her intentions more nefarious?

Moiraine

Who is the Dragon Reborn?

Egwene

Innkeeper’s daughter, promised to Rand al’Thor, apprentice to Nynaeve... It all seems inconsequential in light of the possibilities that lay before Egwene. Could she truly be a powerful channeler, and perhaps even the Dragon Reborn? Whether or not what Moiraine suggests is true, it’s beginning to seem that Egwene is far more powerful — and more important — than she could have ever imagined.

Egwene

Who is the Dragon Reborn?

Rand

Rand doesn’t trust Moiraine. Her veiled intentions, and the forces of evil that seem to follow her, make her a threat in his eyes. He is brash, impulsive, and impossibly stubborn, but he’s driven to protect those he loves. If he’s not the one Moiraine seeks, he will still do everything in his power to save them from whatever she has planned. But if he is, perhaps he has the power to protect them all.

Rand

Who is the Dragon Reborn?

Mat

Most see Mat as a witty, mischievous rogue — which he certainly is — but deep down, Mat fears he’s a bastard like his father; a drunk like his mother. If this Dragon Reborn business comes with responsibility, he’s not interested. But perhaps, whether or not he’s who Moiraine is looking for, it can be his ticket to a better life.

Mat

Who is the Dragon Reborn?

Perrin

Perrin is a kind, gentle soul woven into a powerful and physically imposing form. He takes as much care in forming his words and actions as he would a fine blade on his forge. He strives to avoid inadvertently harming others — physically or emotionally — yet his anger, when provoked, is truly terrifying. Perrin has yet to unleash the full ferocity of his power, and he hopes to keep it that way.

Perrin

Who is the Dragon Reborn?

Nynaeve

Nynaeve’s stubborn nature and brash self-righteousness were necessary tools of the trade when she became the youngest Wisdom the Two Rivers had ever seen. And now it seems her inherent ability to Listen to the Wind and profound aptitude for healing may be mere glimpses of her true potential. She has no trust for Aes Sedai, but she will do what she must to find the others from the Two Rivers and keep them safe.

Nynaeve

Who is the Dragon Reborn?

Lan

Lan is a man of honor, driven by duty. As Moiraine’s Warder, his commitment to her quest is unwavering. Were you somehow able to gain his trust, you would find his stoic face and propensity for silence mask an endearing depth and complexity of character. Still, it’s best not to let your guard down around him. After all, there are few things more formidable than an Aes Sedai and her Warder.

Origin Stories

Aes Sedai Great Serpent Rings

Golden rings shaped like a serpent biting its own tail. They are worn by the Aes Sedai, and the presence of one on a finger indicates to all that the wearer is a member of that sisterhood. The color of the ring's stone represents the wearer's Ajah.

Aes Sedai Great Serpent Rings

Trolloc Weapons

Trollocs wield a variety of weapons, including spears and axes. Some have even been known to brandish bows and arrows. Trolloc weapons are coated with a deadly poison, and produce wounds that rarely heal by themselves.

Trolloc Weapons

Blades of Thakan’dar

These black-bladed swords, wielded by Fades, are forged at Thakan’dar. The final step in the forging of a blade involves the execution of a living human. Even small scratches from these tainted weapons usually prove to be lethal, unless the wound can be healed by an Aes Sedai.

Blades of Thakan’dar

Moiraine's Jewel

A sparkling blue jeweled pendant hangs from the elegant chain worn by Moiraine Damodred. Is it simply ornamental, or does it serve some other purpose? With someone as secretive as Moiraine, one can never be certain.

Moiraine's Jewel

Lan’s Sword

An elegant sword that is as deadly as it is beautiful when wielded by its owner, Lan Mandragoran. Carried across his back in an elegant leather sheath.

Lan’s Sword

Ruby-Hilted Dagger

Deep within the walls of Shadar Logoth, one might come across artifacts left behind by the long-dead people of Aridhol. As tempting as these relics may be, legend has it that these items are as contaminated by evil as the city itself. It's best to avoid the city altogether. But if you find yourself within its walls, take nothing with you.

Ruby-Hilted Dagger

Perrin’s Hammer and Axe

The hammer is a blacksmith’s tool of creation, used to shape metal into desirable forms. Heavy and powerful, it is primarily used to create. The axe, on the other hand, is first and foremost a tool of destruction and violence.

Perrin’s Hammer and Axe

Rand’s Heron-Mark Sword

An elegant weapon owned by Tam al’Thor, decorated with exquisite carvings of herons on the blade and sheath.

Rand’s Heron-Mark Sword

Padan Fain’s Wagon

A colorful painted wagon, driven by two horses, that arrives in the Two Rivers every year just in time for Bel Tine. From here the peddler, Padan Fain, displays and sells his assorted wares, including lanterns, dried herbs, threads, brushes, and other trinkets.

Padan Fain’s Wagon

Thom’s Guitar

A simple six-string guitar, but in the hands of the right gleeman, it can create wondrous music. Luckily its owner, Thom Merrilin, is one of the best, singing songs that can touch even the hardest of hearts.

Thom’s Guitar

Ter’angreal

Physical objects of varying sizes that can be used to focus the One Power in a variety of ways. The Oath Rod, upon which all Aes Sedai take the Three Oaths, uses the One Power to make the vows sworn upon it unbreakable. Others can act as doorways between places, or seem to have no function at all.

Ter’angreal

The Horn of Valere

A powerful artifact, kept hidden and protected in the fortress of Fal Dara. It is said that when the horn is sounded, the greatest heroes of the age will be drawn to it to aid the Dragon in the Last Battle.

The Horn of Valere

Sa'angreal

This jade carving of a seated man may be small, but it holds great power. If one channels into it, it will increase their power one hundred fold.

Childish in every way.
I have read all of the books cover to cover at least 4 times, but I am judging this as a standalone effort.

To be Blunt, it is bad. We start with a big bit of drama in episode 1 and very little reason to care. As it continues into the 3rd episode the characters are so utterly devoid of any personality that there's still little reason to care.
Pike chews the set with some of the worst acting I have ever seen. The rest of the cast is not much better.
The script is as subtle as a hammer blow. It is childish, unnatural and lacking any art.
The CGI is pretty and the monsters are genuinely scary to look at, but then it goes too far with Styrofoam bricks flying around.
Touching a little upon the books you have a world where all races unite for a final battle and a world mostly run by women. Despite this, the writers have chosen to go OTT with some aspects of equality which completely devalues the equality the books naturally crafted.
There is no art here (beyond set design, makeup, costume and some CGI). It is a bloated mess filled with bland characters in a constant state of reaction. There is no flow, no rhythm and no heart. It is a hollow big budget waste, sadly.

Looking squarely at the books they have changed a lot of things. The journey is much the same, but Mat is not Mat, the Aes Sedai are just weird, Lan is a skinny dude, and there are small changes here and there that just weren't needed. If it was like this and good, I'd have loved it. I wouldn't mind the series and the books having their own identity. Sadly, this is a poor childish hackjob of a creation that failed to hold my interest in any meaningful way. New Spring and .The Eye of the World captivated me, made me care instantly for the people and held me for the whole series. This. This did not.

It's fine, just don't expect it to be the same
I have read the books, cover to cover, at least 5 times each. The earlier books probably over 10 times each while I waited for the new books to come out. I know the story back to front, inside out, I know all the chronological mistakes etc.

Every time someone tries to create a screen adaptation of the book there is a basic problem which will alienate the vast majority of people who ever read the book. That is, we all read it with our imagination and when someone makes a screen adaptation we are forced to see their imagination of the same thing. Basically, it will always be different, and people will always complain about that.

For something like the Wheel of Time, which is iconic and in reality is the ultimate version of what Tolkein lovers look for, the differences will always have been a big deal. So the creators did something different and that is upsetting people.

In my opinion, if you watch this as a form of 'fan fiction' which uses the same characters, some of the key events, but retells it differently, then it is absolutely fine. Certain bits I really like, for example I like the relationship between Moirane and Siuan. For TV purposes, I like that Perrin kills his wife, it is a far easier explanation for his angst about violence, considering we won't have the benefit of reading about his silent thoughts like we would in the book. I don't like that Nynaeve and Lan get together straight away, for me it takes a lot away from both characters, it has the feel of putting in a love interest early purely for purpose of the show. I also think that there is a lot of assumed knowledge which might make it a difficult watch for people who have never read the books,

4/5 for me. I enjoyed watching it. Am also curious to see how the plot lines will change now that they have changed certain things early on, particularly Moirane being stilled.

Good - but missing a little something
I haven't read the books, so I didn't have many expectations for the series. I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed the world-building, the political nuance and the ways in which magic is explained and wielded. Unfortunately, I wasn't charmed by the 'special five' who are supposed to change/save the world or their teenage bickering. However, Rosamund Pike was brilliant, making Moiraine and her bodyguard the focal characters and cast members. They both really carried the show. Overall, I enjoyed it and I look forward to Season 2 - not because I care a jot about the 'special five' but because I care about Moraine's story.

Slow start, but a good foundation.
Some deviation from the book but that was obviously going to be the case. I'm hoping this sets up a really great season 2

New to the books, loved this series, can't wait for more.
I did not read the books, and was very put off by the number of them in this series, so was curious when i saw this was available to watch. So I had no pre conceived ideas at the start and cannot comment on how faithful this is to the source material. The story is great, with very rich background to the whole world that gives this such depth. I am excited to know how it unfolds. The acting, costumes, and whole visual of the places you are transported to makes this world feel believable.

If you have not read the books i emplore you to keep an open mind until the end! you will not be dissapointed!
