The Blu Ray 3D disc version of this film has great depth and scope. Both discs in this package are all regions (ABC) and are the generic worldwide release discs with all subtitles and soundtracks as standard with English being the default language for everything. The only thing different about this package from what WOULD have been a UK release is the German design of the outer box sleeve. I guess Blu Ray 3d fans will have to start getting used to importing 3D versions of films from overseas now as it looks like SONY has joined PARAMOUNT and 20TH CENTURY FOX in not releasing films that got a 3D cinema release onto Blu Ray 3D in the UK and in some cases no 3d Versions are being released anywhere in the world cases in point Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Bumblebee, The Predator, Free Guy, Cosmoball, No Time To Die (LIMITED 3D CINEMA RELEASE), X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Very annoying!!!

Much Better Than the Critics Reviews
Verified purchase
Bought on a whim because I wanted a bit of mindless entertainment with no great hopes of brilliance but hoping for some distraction.

And, actually, found this to be much more entertaining than any of the critics reviews suggested. Far more in fact and I'd go so far as to say it is better than some other Marvel films which have been roundly lauded such as the Black Panther which I found to be overblown.

I can see where the issues lie of course. Do they take Venom down the horror route or the funny path and to an extent the producers tried both with consequent mixed messages. That being said, it mostly works and in the end I think the general direction was to be more 'Deadpool' than alien monster. The only issue is that once humour was injected then it should have been made more full on.

Anyway, action abounds and effects whilst not maybe up there with the best of the Marvel films is still pretty good. The actual Venom character develops a black humour as the film progresses and hopefully if more films are made then this should be made more of.

Bit of light romance and a reasonable - if predictable for a superhero movie - storyline and overall a generally fun and diverting film.

You will be entertained , this is a keeper.

Not ever having had any knowledge of Venom this was all new to me. Sometimes I think not having prior knowledge of a character , is an advantage when viewing. Venom is fun , it's gory , it's romantic but most of all , it is engaging. I am 53 years of age and watch these films because I have younger adults living at home. Sometimes that can be hard work but sometimes you get to be entertained , when maybe you thought you may not be. For me and in my opinion , this is entertaining and well worth watching.

Pretty Darn Good

Based on the reviews of this movie generally, I started to watch with rather low expectations. However, this movie is excellent and is a refreshing change to watching movies with endless amounts of superheroes running about to save the world. I have to confess, I've pretty much start to hate the endless supply of Marvel or DC movies (barring Infinity War). For a long time I've craved something different; and Vemon is different. It's funny and fresh. There humour is balanced correctly without being idiotic. It's such a change.... a good one at that! There are parts of this movie that are of course weak, like Riz Ahmed is under used as is Michelle Williams. However, overall its worth a watch. So ignore those stupid critics.

I really rate Tom Hardy. To my mind he is the best actor of his generation (British or American). His class really does knock the spots of his American counterparts in this - their performance is decidedly mediocre by comparison. Riz Ahmed was incredibly wooden - really had barely any emotional input and I was waiting for them to reveal that he was a robot.
Now here in my opinion is another difference between American and British actors, and honestly I'm not trying to be pompous here, but American producers etc. really need to revisit this. Tom Hardy is shown, warts and all with no covering of wrinkles or blemishes or straightening/whitening of teeth. Compare him to Michelle Williams who has had her makeup applied with a trowel - right down to the thickest false eyelashes I have ever seen. Blindingly white, unnatural looking, teeth and hair which I am not sure whether it's a wig or not.
It is actually getting quite boring now, watching these mannequin type woman (and now even men) parading around the screen looking absolutely perfect and totally unrealistic. It got so Tom Hardy looked like he had wandered onto the wrong set.
Having said all that the CGI was terrific and I loved the personality of Venom, and the banter between him and his host. So still rates a four star in my book even with the irritations of what the American actors were made up to be like.

Really wanted the 3d version
Verified purchase
Really wanted the 3d version of this and some of them were extortionate. Then I discovered that if you want the 3d version of the film you need to complete the email me when in stock. Once you do this AMAZON emails you back with a price at the same it would have been in the UK.

The film

Great 3d
Great storyline
Stan Lee was in it

Cons

The film studios last year released more 3d blu rays than the year before. This year the film companies are phasing out the 3d format with the UK first.

Fine we know that the 3d format fell flat on its face because of timing ie the crash, glasses, badly converted 3d etc...... but why release in Bangladesh, Mororavia etc...? This led to some sellers taking advantage the situation with one going for £68 I saw.

What happened to Customer choice? They already have an excess of £5 on top

I didn’t expect to find that I’d purchased Venom but thanks to my 6 year old I apparently had! So hubby and I sat down to watch it with great hope. Well it has Tom Hardy in at least we commented. Then it started and we discover that the wonderful Riz Ahmed is in it too! Great joy!
But sadly even the Tom and Riz couldn’t save this nonsense. It’s an absolute pile of doo. Don’t bother, find something better to do and change the password on your firestick!!!!

Decent film, mostly due to amazing lead actor.

I dreaded this film when it was announced as Venom without Spider-Man is like Batman without Joker. Story wise Sony would've been better off waiting until they could include Spider-Man in it, as Venom's comic book origin story is completely reliant on the rivalry between Peter Parker and Eddie Brock. Should Spider-Man ever be included in this Sony/Marvel Universe or whatever this is I struggle to see how they'll introduce the character and said rivalry with this new continuity.

Having said that the story which they have written here is a decent enough spin on things. Eddie Brock is now an online blogging sensation, bringing his viewers the truth behind the headlines. His no nonsense style of reporting is ultimately his career/lifes undoing. Venom is still a symbiote from outer space, brought to earth in the hope that these newly discovered life forms may be the key to medicinal miracles such as mending bones instantaneously or cancer, by bonding patients with the symbiotes. Thus a (un)happy accident ensues, where said blogger, who happens to be unearthing grisly secrets within the labs containing symbiotes, crosses paths with said symbiote.

Tom Hardy's performance is honestly the main reason I'd recommend anybody sit through this film. He nails it, and clearly has fun doing it. As for the big brute himself, the CGI is as good as it probably could've been and his voice is spot-on. They really got the character of Venom so perfect. It's just a shame it couldn't have been in the proper context, with the aforementioned Parker/Spider-Man rivalry from the books. Also, because of Spidey's absence, Venom has no large white spider emblazoned on his torso. Though this may be me being a nitpicking fanboy.

The same cannot be said for the rest of the cast. Most of it's passable, but the main villain himself, to me personally, was bollocks. I can't really even explain why, I just did not buy it. Whether it's the fault of the actor or shoddy writing, I could not comment. The whole pace of the film - especially towards the end as the villain gets more of a front seat - feels rushed.

All in all, Venom mostly does what it says on the tin. It's good fun. That's really all. If you're not too fussed about the character or aren't sure about this one, I'd recommend renting rather than buying. I bought the Blu-Ray and I don't suppose it'll be in the disc slot again anytime soon.
