Complicated story with a great soundtrack and some nice cars
Verified purchase
This film has a complicated story and I had to watch it a couple of times before I really fully understood it. Not your run of the mill Tom Cruise film and for the most part not a cheerful film. The film has a great soundtrack which is available on CD. There's also some really nice cars in the film but sadly none of them get driven like they were stolen, more's the pity. Not least there is one really funny scene that I found memorable and worth the price of the film alone - when you see it you'll most likely agree.

Import Blu-ray Review

While the choice of language upon initial load of the disc is appreciated (no need to navigate foreign language menus), the lack of special features (including the alternate ending) is a real shame. The picture, while obviously an upgrade over DVD, is certainly filmic but rather soft. Hopefully this will get a 4k version at some point that is available in the UK (the iTunes version is 4k, but makes no mention of special features or the alternate ending, either).

Not great

Not Tom's finest moment. It admittedly starts well but goes down the rabbit hole and never really delivers. This sort of thing has been done many times and been done a lot better in most cases. Disappointing really as it could have been great. I don't want to tell you what it's really about as that defeats the point of watching it and considering how little is on offer hear, that's the only thing it has to offer, a single surprise that you see coming from a mile off.

horrible

Vacuous rich boy upsets his bedroom buddy, chats up a girl who is really special and genuine so much so that when he is disfigured she doesn't want to know. Main character shows no remorse except when things go badly for him. Nasty film with abysmal message to anyone who is disfigured or disabled. The SciFi is signed posted early on and is hardly a revelation as Ursula Le Guin and Philip K Dick have written about these ideas with much better spin-off movies.

There's way better films out there to watch!

I saw this when it came out and thought it was worth a re-watch with my bf now. I'm still trying to live down the humiliation! It goes on forrrrevvvver but doesn't really take you anywhere.
I had stuck in my head the idea of an amazing bit where he shouts for "tech support" to the crescendo of the beach boys.... But as my bf was doubled up laughing at this point it really didn't live up to my nostalgic fondness!

A modern classic

It's a "modern classic" that makes you think about your choices and how random events can influence your life forever. You cannot almost possibly watch it without asking yourself "what if?" at least once.
I love it!

I'm really not a Tom Cruise fan but he is more than bearable in this movie, which is a remake of A Spanish language movie (Open Your Eyes). It's quite difficult to say which is the best version. Vanilla Sky probably wins on the evocative choices of music used in the soundtrack and the unforgettable New York dream sequence where our Tom is the only person in an eerily empty Times Square.

This is sci fi with a heart, as it is really just a love story with a twist....and as it features Penelope Cruz as the love interest, that's a good enough recommendation for many.

Science fiction dream or love triangle
Verified purchase
Is it a dream or dream within a dream. A big science breakthrough or a dream about it? A real murder or just a dream about it? Lots of question after watching it. Still thrilling and yet lively. I would have love to see a sequel to it. Loved acting of both Cruz and music and art and reference of books.
