This is not a comedy. Its more of an insight into how society has made inappropriate relationships between older men and young girls, excusable and suggests its ok for men to never actually grow up. At one point it is alluded that the girl is only 13-14yo after the wife finds the husband and girl spooning on the sofa. Desipe the husband acting like a 15yo his wife (despite not being able to have babies) ends up looking like the baddie and has to forgive the man child and shift her life to fit around his.
Defo do not recommend.

Not a comedy. Definitely not hilarious. Nothing exciting happens in this movie. There is no hero in this movie. Ryan Reynold doesn't do anything in this movie except appear occasionally wearing superman clothes. He didn't need to be in the movie. The movie is about a miserable marriage where the husband, who is an author, has writer's block and needs time of his own, so his wife drops him off at a winter cabin for a few weeks while she goes to work, and once in a while she visits him. He meets a young girl who had a twin sister who died and she can't get over it. They become friends. Just as they became friends the wife finds out, she yells at her husband and he says goodbye to the young girl and goes off with his wife. And that's that. I would never have wasted all this time watching it if the picture on the front cover had been a little more representative of the story.

Not funny, Ryan is not the lead role so do not be fooled. This went straight to dvd in 2009 and rereleased in 2014 advertising as a Ryan Reynolds film.

Its about a middle aged man and I am not exaggerating here WHO BEFRIENDS AND GETS FAR TOO CLOSE TO HAVING SEXUAL RELATIONS WITH A TEENAGE GIRL.

We felt violated watching this, watch at the risk of vomit.

An amazing film - original, deep, touching and incredibly well written. But definitely mismarketed as a comedy. I typed in 'comedy' looking for a laugh and found myself unexpectedly touched by the truth and tragedy of these characters.

If you like deep films, appreciate excellent screen-writing, and can stomach some emotional honesty, then you'll LOVE this film. The dialogue is stunning and the acting is some of the best I've EVER seen. The subtlety of the script astounds me and the way the film pulls at you emotionally without any exaggeration of plot or character is just a masterclass in writing.

Like I say, not one to watch if you need a laugh or a lift, but definitely a must-watch if you appreciate grown-up writing, poignant themes and out-of-this-world acting. An unexpected 5 stars from me.

This film is most definitely not for everyone and the cover art probably leads the wrong viewers in. However, I love nothing more than watching film without knowing what it is going in. I was expecting a dumb, inept superhero film, and instead got a truly original, deep look at two tragic figures' lives played out at a crossroads where I really had no idea which path the film was going to take.

This is a quirky film, with somewhat flawed characters and it may provide the ocassional chuckle. I couldn't quite figure out what the main plot was or how the various elements came together but it made sense after a while. Its somewhat touching when Abby opens up to Richard. There is the obvious comic side to it, with the superhero sidekick showing up from time to time but the film isn't really about that as such, its more of an average joe film about average joes. There is something endearing about it though - I like the quirkiness and indeed I can relate to, or otherwise share, the appeal of escaping into your imagination, when things aren't so great in your humdrum environment, as an adult. I like this films subtlety. Yes I would recommend this film to others. Oh and also, I felt the ending was particularly touching but I admit, this film certainly won't appeal to all and it definitely isn't a 'regular' superhero film either.

I found myself immersed in the story of the film and after a slowish start I found myself involved in the characters and the story. I would definitely recommend this film. However, if you are watching it because you want a comedy (whether light-hearted, dark etc.) then you do not want to watch this film. There a couple of moments where you have a little chuckle, but beyond that it is most definitely not a comedy. Whoever put 'Hilarious' on the cover, clearly watched a different film. So do not expect to watch a comedy but it is a good film if you're not expecting to watch a comedy.

During the Lock down period I've been watching a few films of late, and this came off the back of one actors comments I was watching as a film to check out. They say never judge a book by its cover and for this one this is the case. Even though i like Ryan Reynolds i don't think he should have been the choice for the cover "Unlikely Hero" "Paper Man" The Star of this gem is Emma Stone, if you like "Emma" Emily J Stones work then, this one you have to check out, her acting is this i believe is top notch and playing against the great Jeff Daniels its really good. Both of there characters have issues that they are dealing with in life and there friendship that they find in each other is heart warming.. if your looking at actors at work then this is one is to watch especially for Emma's performance and 5th acting role you can see why later on in her career she gets an Oscar..
