How customer reviews and ratings work
Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

Very nice and comfortable and for their first hike with me they climbed up and back down Mount Snowdon.

I'm normally a medium shirt and trouser but I do often wear large depending on the type of clothing. Trousers are often easier to adjust but unfortunately this was not the case with the Ultrasport basic outdoor.
The pants themselves are lovely. Good amount of stretch when tested crouching. Good water resistant material with nice warm pockets. Warm inner lining. The sizing was however a slight issue. Despite being Large, the velcro straps to adjust the waistband size are pretty short, meaning that you can't make this fit snugly if your waist is around 31-32. 33 and above should be okay but you may have to much in some clothing between the trouser and your body (that's how I'm wearing them now). The styling and look at great, even worn a size up. It's a fitting snowboarder/ski type fit so narrower at the hips and thigh and wider so you have a fitting look, rather than just looking like spongebob squarepants.
They are extremely warm and would perform well in the mountain evenings. However I wouldn't wear these on the slopes (you could) as they are two thin and not nearly waterproof enough unless you can avoid falling over at all :) The protective patches on the inner ankle area are a nice touch and should help these last.
I would seriously consider getting the Medium version of these.

Layers.
When its flipping freezing then you need to wear layers. Most of us layer up our fleeces, jackets etc. Neglecting our lower half. Brrrr.
These trousers are designed to be multi-functional, for sporty type activities etc. Not a chance in our house, we avoid physical effort whenever possible. But these trousers have been tested most vigorously on the dreaded winter dog walk.
When you are all snuggled up in yet bed, cosy and drowsy, you get an impatient paw demanding immediate attention.
If that attention means a walk, in blustery, snowy and cold conditions then you might find these trousers useful. Slipping a pair of thermal long johns under them, the trousers are roomy, you get extra warmth.
The wide leg of the trousers means there is plenty of space for bulky hiking boots. The pockets are deep enough to accommodate poo bags, dog treats and the spare lead.
No restriction in movement you can wear these trousers with the confidence that you can run after your disappearing hound without doing yourself a mischief.
The fabric feels nice too, not plasticky, no excessive sweating either. Mud can usually be sponged off with needing a full wash.
A well designed item that will give you years of use.

These trousers have been a great success for outdoor activities (everything from gardening in damp & windy weather through to bracing rambles in the local hillside). They're comfortable, extremely quick drying, keep the wind out, and have good sized pockets. The trousers are strong enough not to be torn or roughed up by stinging nettles and occasional trips over undergrowth.
Regarding the sizing. I'm a 34" waist and 5' 11" tall. I was wearing the size large.
There are no belt loops on the trousers. The waist is adjusted by velcro tabs. Even at the smallest setting the trousers were a little too big for my waist. Another half an inch of tab would've solved that, but as it is they're comfy & wearable but too loose to be smart. The loose waist means the trousers hang 2 -3 inches too low under the crotch, not a good look unless you cover up with a large coat.
The Kevlar panels on the inner ankles are annoying. The ankles of the trousers are too wide and flappy for the Kevlar to be useful, and the panels make an awful noise as you walk.
I think it's worth mentioning these trousers aren't waterproof or water resistant. They're very quick drying, but they offer no protection from wet weather. The reflective detailing on the zip tabs is so small that they're useless. It would have been nice to have a proper, large, safety reflective strip on the trousers.

The Great British Winter has allowed me to give these trousers a thorough workout - they have face snow, rain and bitterly cold winds. Fair play, they have held up against everything the elements have thrown at them, all the while being durable and hardy enough to withstand jogging through the frosted dew, wet and enthusiastic kickabouts with the kids and long, freezing waits at windswept train platforms.
In a nutshell, they do the job they say they will. I was able to wear them on rain lashed walk through the new forest, whipped them off when we reached the pub and my jeans beneath were still dry!
So why on 4 stars? It may seem irrelevant as it is a practical garment but i'm afraid i'm not a fan of the design. It harks back to horrid early 90s shell suits at a glance. You could only wear these in practical conditions. A Small issue which may well not be an issue to anyone else.

I am an outdoors person rather than a sporty one and these work nicely for my hikes in the countryside. I only wish they came in green or camo, as I photograph wildlife and like to be inconspicuous.
36" waist, 5'11" and they fit fine over thermal longjohns. Waist can be adjusted by straps secured by velcro but I didn't have to adjust from as they arrived. End of legs can be opened (zip) to pull over boots or to allow fitting around boots.
Two pockets - I'd like more but if I were skiing and fell over, I wouldn't want to land a hip on hard contents, so understand why not fitted with multipockets like trekking trousers.
Cleaning: low temp, do not use fabric softener/bleach/tumble dry/dryclean.
Real test will come when I visit Norway in March and I may add to this review.
