Two men - childhood friends - become separated by the political turmoil of pre-war Spain only to find themselves on opposite sides. One becomes a priest, founding the Opus Dei movement, the other is an activist who becomes a spy for the fascist movement. As both personal and national battles are waged, their lives collide and their deepest struggles are illuminated through the choices they make.

very watchable

Just marred by the usual Prime issues of lousy sound with no sub-titles. Apart from caring about the characters it made me realise my knowledge of the Spanish Civil War is very rusty so am going to remedying that tomorrow. Recommended.

PS I didn't realise it was supposedly primarily about the founder of Opus Dei. Charlie Cox plays him as a semi-other worldly person but the film, to me, seemed about love, forgiveness and broken relationships over the backdrop of the Spanish Civil War.

This is a five star film well worth watching
Any negative reviews are due to technical issues that some people have experienced while trying to view
Luckily I had no such problems
It is semi biographical / fiction

Charlie Cox is amazing in this film

Really good film, quite old and not well known but I wanted to see Charlie in something very different from his role in DareDevil on Netflix. Wes Bentley was brilliant as the rich and mislead friend. Try to watch it if you can

Some ancient philosopher once reportedly said that 'if you plan on killing a man dig two graves (one for yourself)'. This film puts across a complicated story of human relationships in a time of civil war. It is well produced and well acted. That combination results in a terrific film that is both gripping and thought provoking. It is nothing like I expected but I am glad that I have watched it and will do so again in the future. I am pleased to have it in my film library.

Looks like it's a great film, but unfortunately this version on Amazon Prime Video has no dialogue!
