For Some Reason(s) This Film Did Not Seem As Funny As It Did The First Time Around ( Several Years Ago )

I Found One Of The Nicest Things About The Film, Was Some Of The Location Shots...
Rather Than On Some Studio " Back-Lot " Structure, Some Of The Main Characters Were Shown To ' Live '
In One Of The Older ( And Now, Very Desirable ) Housing Complexes In Hollywood...
( I Know Exactly Where This Particular Complex Was Located )

The Other, Is The Mention And Portrayal Of A ( Fictitious ) Aircraft Manufacturing Plant In " Santa Monica "
As A Matter Of Fact, The Old Douglas Aircraft Plant Was Indeed Located In Santa Monica ( Near What Became Clover Field-Santa Monica Airport )

The ' Aircraft ' That They Seem To Be Building In The Film Look Like The W.W. II Vintage Dive Bombers Built By Douglas Aircraft ( The ' Factory ' Was A Sound Stage And The Aircraft Were Wooden Mock-Ups )

An Enjoyable Film, If For Nothing Else, The Story Touches On Another Example Of An "Anchor-Clanker " ( Sailor ) Of The Many Who Came Home, During And After The War ) To Find Their Wife / Girl Friend Had Been Hosing Somebody Else....

I dont really like Goldie Hawn (but we cant like everyone) but she is quite good in these film along with one of my own favorite's Kurt Russell, just love watching him. I know this is the film where they met and they go well together. Of course it's a timeless story so therefore never 'date's' and the acting is very good and the production is second to none. I really enjoyed watching for the filth time and proberly watch it again. 9/10.

Interesting take on women in WW2

Some decent moments but I remembered this as so much more fun than it was. Goldie Hawn is a docile housewife, whose life changes with the beginning of America's entry into WW2. She takes on a job in a local factory and finds she has skills that she never had a chance to explore before. In the course of all this change she becomes friends with Christine Lahti's character, a strong, independent woman; she also finds herself attracted to another man from the factory. Hawn does a decent job here but Lahti's sassy performance steals the show - it seems that Hawn knew that and so the film was recut to make Hawn's role more prominent. It's a great shame as the film loses the quirky characterisation that director Demme excelled at bringing out, and there's a great supporting cast whose experiences are never fully explored. An interesting take on women during WW2 but it could have been so much more.
