Jenny Han does it again! Amazing cast & direction!
I've read many YA books and one thing I've always wished for was for one of them to become a series instead of a movie. It's rare for me to completely fall for a novel adaptation because as most people know, many have to be adjusted to fit into a different medium; whether it be film or TV, and unavoidably these changes tends to lose parts of the essence that makes people fall in love with the book in the first place. However, this is probably one of the few examples of where an adaptation has met and even exceeded my expectations of portraying this beautiful story as closely to Jenny Han's vision, which makes it so special.

Instead of typically being disappointed with the series' adjustments in the narrative (such as the debutante ball), if anything those changes actually help to further portray the character's feelings and narrative development which brings out the same feelings I had when I read the original book. It really shows how much Jenny was involved in the making of the series and the show is a prime example of what good screenwriting, casting, acting and direction can do when they align their vision with the original writer of the novel.

I really hope Film/TV industries and distributors can also see the potential of portraying adaptions through a series like this versus through film. I know a lot of factors come into play when making any form of moving image, and as a consumer I should even be thankful that stories I love get chosen to be adapted into any other form of entertainment. But as a viewer I've found that the format of a digital series such as this, provides greater time and opportunities for the cast & crew to deliver stronger narrative and character developments throughout the course of several episodes, versus a single (or a couple of) 1-2 hour films (that sadly get poorly delivered due to the limitations of film having no where near enough time to depict the same essence/scenes written in a novel -unless of course the writers and the rest of the crew are geniuses).

Ultimately, I'm so happy that we finally get to see and relive this series on the screen, and props to the amazing chemistry between all of the cast. If you couldn't tell I loved it and I want to see more!!!

better than the books
I can easily say I am definitely one who loves cheesy, romance cliches but this also included deep emotional plots within the family as well as bringing a light and happy feel to scenes where I could not help but smile at. I have read the books, but I tend to keep the third out of my mind as i don't believe as it was true to Jeremiah's character and i loved the books, but this series truly has me hooked. Overall, cute, feel good, romance series that I am rewatching as I type this!

WOW!! WHAT A BRILLIANT SERIES!
I WISH I COULD WATCH THIS SERIES OVER AND OVER WTIHOUT EVERY HAVING SEEN IT BEFORE!! IT IS COMPLETELY ADDICTIVE, AND I WATCHED IT ALMOST IN ONE SITTING! The characters are all great, with each actor beautifully cast and doing their character all the justice they deserve. Lots of emotions, highs and lows going on. Reminds me of really great series like O.C. but I prefer The Summer I Turned Pretty because most of the characters are just really fine and decent people, so there is more of an old-fashioned morality to the Series which is refreshing and which really does justice to the lovely, romantic side of the story. So, close to Twilight in emotion but without all the blood and gore! Definitely, a must see Series. I am just about to start Book 2 on Amazon as can't wait for Series 2 to know what happens next! :) THANK YOU AMAZON!!

i loved it so much, the way issues were represented were so realistic for a teenager, i felt like i could really relate to all of the characters and was crying and laughing the whole way through, plan on reading the books in summer and now i am even more excited, cannot wait for season 2!

Loved it! YA romance with all the trimmings brought to the screen……
Really enjoyed this season 1. Yes, some of the storylines may be slightly predictable but then so are many books but I still enjoyed reading them and this is no different. The actors are great, the emotion, the laughter. It’s a real coming of age drama with life’s challenges thrown in.

If you enjoy reading YA romance, this is a must watch. It’s easy watching too! I hope there’s a second season.

Might as well not be based on the books at all
This series strayed so far from the story of the books that they should've just made a series with a different title and different character names. I understand that for film and tv adaptations parts of the plot have to be taken out or added in but this took out so much and added even more that none of it made sense. I didn't mind the idea of the debutant ball. I think that added some structure to work around. What I read in the books though, was a sweet romance/coming of age but this just felt like an excuse to overly sexualise teenagers with how many hookup scenes and crude jokes they added in. I can't understand how the producers can justify making a series rated 16+ with a plot about a girl who is only 15 at the beginning of the series. I'm really disappointed in this and surprised that the author let someone do this to her writing.

Oh Dear!!
Where do I start? The storiline is very poorly constructed. The acting is apolling, zero chemistry among the actors, the protagonist is an average pretty girl, not pretty enough to justify all this attention, not even like she has an amazing personality. And what are you saying to girls that had to wear glasses that they are not pretty? Her love interest is as annoying as anybody can be and what with the shape of his eyebow that look plugget, he looks odd anyway. The other brother is n so much better in so many ways. And what is with the mother that have to be conviced to give a try to the cancer trial, she wuldn't do anything possible for her kids? She had to be convinced? The whole thing in its entirety is so mediocre so flat that don't even have the merit to be noticebly bad.

Amazing!!!! I love it so much
I haven't read the books yet, I just bought them. But even if the show is like the books and I don't care because this show was amazing like AMAZING. I love it so much, the actors did an amazing job, and the show was just the best. Really hope there's a season 2.
well be watching on repeat for the next 5 months now :)
