Appalling

At the time of writing, 48% of the 'reviews' rate 'Suicide Squad' as 5 stars. Even taking into account differing tastes and demographics, very few people could honestly say they would think a film like this is worth TOP marks.

I'm sure there are SOME who would have fun with this but I wouldn't have liked this even when I was 15 - the direction and editing are weak but the writing is just horrible. Marvel films may be somewhat generic but they are polished efforts - Suicide Squad feels like the script was churned out over a couple of days and nobody thought to question how idiotic many of the decisions are. The movie just doesn't respect the audience.

This is not worth watching, even for free.

Continued deterioration of Hollywood "blockbusters" - OK but a long way from "great"

3 stars for the big budget cast and some good performances, but whether its the editing, directing or just the writing it was cobbled together like a badly drawn Frankenstein, it didn't gel, flow or stand up to much examination plot-wise. The Hollywood formula needs to move on because its just cranking out badly made films or rehashing old ones - it may have the money or special effects, but wheres the creativity that makes something good great? Hollywood is so steeped in nepotism that there are people making films who are not there by merit or talent, a film of the this scale and budget shouldn't just have a few good performances saving its ass, it should be a better film.

It is As Bad as the Reviews Say!

As with any bad film, there's probably a good film in there, trying to get out & that's the case with SS.

Performances are all basically fine, it's everything else that's wrong, plot, characterisation, motivation, editing & just about anything else you can name. Scenes are in the wrong order from the beginning, which affects everything to follow, so it get's off to a bad start & unfortunately never recovers. Although individual performances are pretty good & engaging, they're done in such a way that prevents you from caring; I think much of this could be corrected with a complete re-edit, if the shots are available, but you'd still be left with a lacklustre, forced plot.

Miscast stand out is Delevigne, as the Doctor, she looks about 12 & as the witch she writhes about like a drunk octopus!

If you can totally disengage your brain or not care about your loss of life, it's watchable, otherwise there's probably better explosions elsewhere.

Awful Film
Verified purchase
This film is awful, it's poorly written and directed. Two of the characters were badly introduced. The acting is not up to scratch. The plot/story is not very well thought out, it's a bit of a mess.

The joker, for this films has been transformed into what can basically be described as a slightly eccentric gangster/mob boss. They failed to pull off the mentally deranged side of the Joker, which is the whole premise to the character. This meant that sadly the Joker was largely underwhelming. Jared Leto was a bad choice to play the Joker, he just over acted and didn't really do the character any justice, even more.

Adam Beach's character introduction ( as Slipknot) felt like an after thought. He barely got any screen time and had very limited dialogue. "Spoilers!" his character is then killed off relatively quickly. This could just be good script writing/a mise en scene nod, but that seems unlikely considering how bad the rest of the film is. his demise could also have a certain negative interpretation.

Will smiths character, Deadshot, however was probably one of the few things about the film that worked.

The practical, unaided by CGI makeup in the film, is almost non existent. So how it won an Oscar for it is baffling.

What a pitiful heap of junk

The actors deserved so much better. Huge budget, great idea (even if it is really just a rip off of the great Dirty Dozen) executed abominably, entirely because there's all but NO PLOT. Well OK there's a sort of plot, the sort of plot which would be dreamed up in 5 minutes and instantly forgotten by a bored 12 year old. And, it just never develops from the initial idea. It's kind of like watching a circus... lots of people with special talents but no context to them. Will Smith is the most likeable character, but his sole schtick is that he's an angst ridden professional hit man with a daughter...that's it. I've no idea why Harley Quinn is such a cult hero, she's merely a psychotic giggling imbecilic ninny who reels off inane witless set-piece "wisecracks" at every opportunity, to absolutely no effect, because the dialogue writing is so, so bad. A second star because I felt the actors did try very hard to make something out of the scraps they were given, but all things considered, borderline unwatchable.

How did they create a boring film from a DC Comics story??
Verified purchase
I have wanted this film since it was announced but something held me back from buying it. I was very pleased to see it included in the latest set of films on Prime.....
I was TOTALLY amazed how UTTERLY BORING it is..... Almost unable to believe it is so...... MEH!
Gave up watching it half way through but made myself finish it...almost. It is full of plot holes, dull dialogue. Unengaging characters and a ridiculous plot. Thank you Amazon for adding this to Prime. The bright side is I did not waste any money...just time .

Inoffensive action flick, not as bad as popular opinion

I didn't watch this when it came out because I had been disappointed by Man of Steel and Batman v Superman, and what I'd seen of Leto's ridiculous Hot Topic Joker put the nail in the coffin. However, I saw it was now included in my Prime membership so thought I'd give it a go.

It's OK. It's not good by any stretch of the imagination but it does a decent job. I was interesting in where it was going and I had my heart-strings tugged a few times, albeit with hokey and cliché backstories ("bloo bloo I'm an obvious MS-13 stand-in who killed his wife and kids poor me"). Is Leto the worst portrayal of the Joker of all time? Yes. Are there a couple of scenes where Killer Croc and Enchantress's heads have been CGI'd onto their bodies that look so bad you'll actively be laughing at the film? Yes. But it's an entertaining enough watch and not nearly as bad as I had heard from the internet. Watch it in the spirit it is intended - as garbage popcorn fluff - and you'll have a good time.
