When I was a kid (in my 50's now) Stanley tools were lauded among the DIY uncles and dads of the 70's. Being reliable, durable and most importantly 'the tool for the job'. What on earth has happened to that once respectable name in tool manufacturer? This and other Stanley tools I have purchased, feel and perform like cheap knockoffs! I'll start with the good points, which are completely aesthetic, )therefore in the serious world of DIYing dads of the 2000's are pretty pointless reasons to buy tools)
Good points
1.It looks the part (it isn't, trust me)
2.It's a small yellow and black stubby, therefore cute and somewhat bee like
Bad points
1.It feels really cheap
2.On use it falls apart in your hands! Not literally, but the top that covers the shaft storage for the other bits, comes off in your hands, this even happens when using the ratchet function, so less hand movement
3.The bits seem soft, only used it once, but one of the cross head parts is already losing its integrity
4. Believe it or not at ^3.19 for a Stanley tool it is over-priced
After seeing this at my house my partner was enamored by its chubby, stubby bee like loveliness, so being a bloke who never misses a chance as gaining brownie points I also bought her one which should arrive today. Hopefully she will just admire its looks and never use it.
The founders of Stanley must be ratcheting both ways in their graves seeing what has happened to their once famously fantastic tools.
Avoided for the reasons above, may well return.
