If you know it's Dolph Lundgren, then you know what you;re going to get, and okay action film with reasonable acting. Gina Bellman is a nice addition but I didn't recognise any of the other actors.
The film is well paced, for the most part, well edited, and a fairly good thriller. If I have any serious criticism it is the premise that a top sniper would fail to complete a job and then be given a second bite, to fail again. The scene of over-acting in the falling lift at the end spoiled the tension. I think a man in that position would probably take his end stoically.
Perhaps I'm generous on the stars, but I didn't expect a new Bourne film, and can't understand the hate in some reviewers. Lundgren is like Hauer, and has based an entire career on the strength of one good performance early on. Hauer in "Bladerunner" and Lundgren in "Rocky". Having said that, I know Hauer is famous for "The Hitcher" which I didn't like, although his performance in "Blind Fury" was excellent..My favourite Lundgren film would be "The Punisher", I considered him ideal for that role.
Ignore the haters and give it a try.

I've never quite understood why 'Silent Trigger' comes in for such heavy fire, review-wise.
I've always found it to be a solid, low budget actioner which throws together a dependable b-movie lead (Lundgren), the incredibly sexy Gina Bellman and a strong, visual director in Russell Mulcahy (Razorback, Highlander, The Shadow).
Essentially, 'Silent Trigger' is a story about an assassin/sniper and his 'spotter' who've been involved in a botched operation (revealed via a series of flashbacks) who are re-united for another 'job', based in a disused building. As they await their 'target', they attempt to figure one another out in terms of ulterior motives and double-cross, whilst being menaced by an unhinged security guard.
Fair enough, there's some iffy CGI here and there, particularly in an otherwise decent sequence involving a helicopter at the start of the film and some of the acting/dialogue is a bit wobbly.
However, despite a low budget, Mulcahy does extremely well in terms of the look of the film and some clever lighting and photography, especially a shot of Lundgren hiding behind a white sheet, lit up every now and again by sheet lightning. The movie also moves along at a good pace.
The small cast and concentrated location of the film gives it a stage play quality that's quite unique for an action thriller and Lundgren is good to watch, especially as he plays it serious and straight.
'Silent Trigger' is far from a classic and the low budget is obvious at times, but I'd recommend digging out a widescreen version of it to fully enjoy Mulcahy's work, crack open a few beers and watch without prejudice.
It's one of Lundgren's best straight to video efforts and a gem in the Mulcahy canon.

slow paced "action" film

This being a Dolph Lundgren film I was expecting a fairly fast paced action film, and the opening scene seemed to be sending it in that direction but then everything changed. What we get is a fairly slow paced film that gives just enough action to keep you distracted from the real plot of the film that bubbles away under the surface (it's not a twist so don't be thinking you've guessed the twist early on).
I think Silent Trigger does manage to tread the line between action film and thriller while doing both justice.

If I had not been on nightshift I def would not have watched this all the way through, big Dolph's acting is getting worse...looked like a really low budget film, acting terrible and the plot, well what plot lets just leave it at that!

A Really Poor Movie

No sensible plot or storyline. Poor acting and a true waste of time. What was it about? Don't know. Could have been exciting? Two stars for encouragement but what a disappointment.
