This was a direct Shining knockoff

Stanley Kubrick did it so much better. You can see the influences everywhere but nobody does it better than he did so far. The hammer through the door. The walking in the snow and then back to hide the footsteps. The running into the snow to escape while the killer chases with a hammer instead of an ax and so on. Very well played by the actors but it is a rehashing of The Shining. Come on people give us something original and new. Something that we cannot predict please. I saw this coming at every single turn.

Wanted to like it, but very poor

I was trying to like this film, but I guessed the plot twist early (I hoped I was wrong) and it was oh-so predictable and lacking in believability. Loads of cliches and a really lame sort of psycho as the villain. I wished this could have been so much better. The only reason I give this 2 stars and not 1 is because of Naomi Watts, who was excellent; but even she can't make a silk purse out a badly directed and poorly scripted sow's ear.

Awful film

Such a predictable plot, I felt that the film was going to be boring 10 minutes in and I was right. The villain character was ridiculous, over the top, singing hush little baby all of the time. The dialogue was fairly boring, nothing to redeem this film really.

Easy, enjoyable watching.

I've watched too many thrillers to count. The pool is very shallow when it comes to something well acted and enjoyable. This was definetly a treat among many other monstrosities I've watched.
A little cliché in places. But can be forgiven due to the decent storyline and good acting.
Definetly recommended.

Implausible but predictable

A poor piece of work that we abandoned part way through feeling insulted and embarrassed, almost, at having wasted time on a feeble, cliche-packed plot with all the usual infantile shock-events.
A rather nasty aspect to it that felt exploitatrive too,
Avoid.

The one star reviewers need to be Shut In.

I thought this was a really well done film, and quite a twisted tale. It is not a horror film, and the slow start is a deliberate tension builder. I only give it 3 stars, but it is well worth a watch. Watts plays a good part, and for me the twists were unexpected. Very decent.

This is a great thriller, filled with suspense. The acting is fantastic and there was not one weak performance.

Oh wow, loved this. Stars Naomi Watts & The ever Brilliant Jacob Trembley. Both of them star in ‘ The Book Of Henry ‘. What, can I say. I’ve 2800+ films and I liked this.
