Terrific restoration. Terrific film.

I have always loved this film. And so I own several copies. But this version released on blu ray in December 2020 by Warne Archives is the best. I believe this is a 4K scan and it pays off. Grain structure is solid, detail is crisp and the sound is excellent.

If you want to know more about this famous film, there are many better reviewers who can give a hundred good reasons to watch this. By this copy when you do.

Fabulous Xmas film

Let's be clear, this film dates from 1940, so it's an old black and white film. That said it is a lovely old black and white film. It is romantic, sentimental, funny and charming and one James Stewart's very best. Having said that the themes contained are quite dark, as many of the best Xmas films, but it is never maudling and it always retains its wit and charm.
Performances are stellar (I especially like Felix Bressart as Pirovitch, who steals every scene he is in). It is a film that leaves you feeling uplifted, without over-manipulating your feelings by means of a schmaltzy, tear jerking ending. Just wonderful!

Don’t buy this import.

Great film but the reason for my one star is it has Korean subtitles all the way through it. No mention of this on the listing. Bright yellow subtitles ruin the enjoyment of this film. Don’t waste your money on this and try buy it elsewhere.

I’d never seen this before and I struggled to get through it but looking back it’s a quality film which is worth seeing again. James Stuart is a bit gauche. Margaret Sullavan has something magical and the supporting actors are divine. They truly don’t make them like this anymore.

Disappointed

I love b&w old movies and watched this as it had been recommended as a Xmas movie. I found it too shouty and unnecessarily dramatic and prefer the modern version of the story "You've got mail".

Love this movie. Can remember watching this with my mum as a child and it didn’t disappoint this time round. One of life’s feel good movies, to be appreciated time and time again.
Another brilliant film starring Jimmy Stewart.
Remember and choose off for the language, or else you have subtitles. Enjoy.

Old school 'you've got mail'

This is a must see if you saw the Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan remake of the film, you will be very charmed and surprised that they did it so much better in the 1940's. I don't want to ruin anything for you but it is head and shoulders better than the modern day version, enjoy yourself!
