This for me was one of those films that I had wanted to see for some time, but only now have I actually got around to it. So I can now tick it off the list, although I enjoyed it and will be watching it again. With great animation and a vocal cast that really gel together this has everything needed to make it a hit, and it certainly was when released, as the box office returns can attest to. The problem with this is that in many ways it is similar to Toy Story in its actual main plot, but then so many films have the same basic plots these days.

As this opens, we see certain pets getting through the day whilst their owners are away, at school and working. For Max a Jack Russell so his day is about to become somewhat different, when Katie, his owner comes home with a new arrival, a rather large and shaggy dog called Duke. Over the night Max is not impressed, but it is the next day when the mayhem and adventure begin. As the two dogs run into trouble when they become separated from their walker, so they run into a fight with cats, being captured by the dog wardens, and then escaping, and being held captive by a gang of ruthless former pets, who have been dumped.

It is up to the friends of Max to come to their rescue, making new friends on the way, and forming some unlikely alliances. A tale then of friendship and teamwork, where coming together to beat the odds is the only way, this does entertain very much. We obviously know what the ending will be like, as we have all seen films like this before, but it is fun enough and full of humour that adults will enjoy themselves as much as children. I found myself getting sort of attached to some of the animals, as they reminded me of certain pets I have had over the years, or have known, which I am sure many other viewers will have done. This is fast paced and with more than enough action to keep anyone happy, and you will find yourself laughing out loud.
