A lot of reviewers are actually giving high star ratings and seem to be reviewing a film about Prince - so don't go by the star rating for this movie. This film, though not a bad movie to pass the time, was tired and predictable. Cuba Gooding Jnr, so good in other films, also looked washed out. This film was a bit like a 99 ice cream without the flake. The basics were there but it was unimaginative and unexciting. If you like Prince I would probably give this one a miss and go and watch what those other reviewers were writing about.

If your a Prince fan you need this one. Another rare, limited release on VHS. I believe the show itself is an aftershow party. Anyone who has been to a Prince aftershow party knows what i mean when i say this is unmissable. Prince is electrifying and on fine form. For such a small stage he seems to cover and tear every inch of it up. Brilliant performance. And he even smashes his guitar up at the end!

Prince of awesome
This is superb. I was actually at this show, 2000 people crammed into a room for 500, he played from 3am til 5am, Mavis Staples, NPG and Prince. Awesome renditions of The Ride and Peach. Not to be missed

Straight to DVD cop thriller
The Sacrifice of the film is based on John Hebron's (Cuba Gooding Jr. ([[ASIN:B00006FI33 Jerry Maguire]])) own sacrifice, where upon this undercover cop who took down a drug lord, had his wife & child murderd by those who he had imprisoned in reprisal. We watch on as this haunted & depressed man tries to continue his job with the help of a self service bar in his 4x4 & disregard for his own life & the rules. But a ray of light might give him redemption, as he comes across drug dealer Mike (Devon Bostick -[[ASIN:B005M2C6RQ Diary of a Wimpy Kid]]) who wants out from his boss Jade (Lara Daans -[[ASIN:B002KPL8WW King of Sorrow]]), to save himself & his little sister Angel (Arcadia Kendal), who are in danger form the head honcho Arment (Kim Coates -[[ASIN:B004VLZTPU Sons of Anarchy ]]). In step John & his priest friend Father Porter (Christian Slater-[[ASIN:B00004D0HC Broken Arrow ]]) who is no ordinary priest, to save the day & give John a reason to live.

Sacrifice is in every way the straight to DVD film it is. Cuba Gooding Jr's acting performance is good & the action sequences he is in are decent. Christian Slater was okay in his handful of short scenes & Kim Coates added his usual menace to the baddie roles he is well known for. The odd choice to cast the baby faced Devon Bostick as some sort of low life drug dealer, who looks barley legal to drink, was a bit of an odd choice. He acted well but seemed miscast for the role, although i can see what they were trying to do, innocent kid caught up in a bad world through no fault of his own. There were some unnecessary sex scenes & just odd scenes in general that didn't add to the film.

The only saving grace's of the film, along with the experience from the main cast, was the performance from Lara Daans as the sexy yet vicious Jade, and the fact that after 45 minutes or so, the film actually became quite interesting, if you hadn't turned off yet by that stage that is. The story certainly had potential, but the lack of momentum up until well over the halfway point, left me watching the clock more then the film. It's sad to see Cuba Gooding Jr. pushing out these DVD quality films, as he seems to be drifting off into Wesley Snipes territory with this offering. He just needs to pick some better role's consistently, as sadly, Sacrifice is a wrong turn in his carer, but hopefully he will find his way back back on track, c'mon Cuba!

In conclusion, Sacrifice makes for a half decent afternoon film at best, that is, if you can sit through the slow pace of the opening 45 minutes you'll at least be rewarded with a somewhat interesting finale. But overall it's not worth the sacrifice getting there.

Cuba was an undercover cop separated from his family. He gets found out and his family is killed. Afterward, he teams up with Jack Daniels to live a miserable life as the Toronto police force's "Dirty Harry light". In the city there is a drug lord with a techno dance club, where sex can be had in the restrooms as lovers snort lines off each others body (you know the place). Mike, a young drug dealer wants out. He cares for his younger sister. He hijacks a statue of the Virgin Mary made of heroin paste and ransoms its location to his former employer (guess how that works out).

I didn't think Cuba could get a worse role after "Hit List", but I was wrong. After so many good films, he is getting dog after dog. It is time for a new agent. The film has the lousy plot of a disjointed grindhouse film, but none of the other qualities that make it watchable. During the argument/fight between two guys over who took the statue, the acting got so bad I had to ask, "Was this really the best take? Couldn't they have shot the scene over?"

The movie pretends to make a statement on drug trafficking and redemption, but falls way short. 1 1/2 stars.
